I finally got back into marking my bills, and one of the first ones i marked and spent, the cashier took it and scratched out the writing… she just scribbled it out! Any suggestions on what to do in a situation like this? I asked her very nicely why she had to do that and she just said becuz its illegal to be writing on bills and blah blah blah, then we got into a big discussion on how its not… but still she said if she sees anymore she'll still scratch them out!
Hey DA good to see you back, & thanks for the hit a while back! My solution (I had a pretty miserable comment the other day from a cashier) - spend your money elsewhere! That takes care of it for me!
Hey Raja!! It's good to finally be back! Lol didn't have a comp and wasnt able to get online for sometime, so i went and bought a new computer and then had bills upon bills upon bills for awhile so i didn't even have any moneys to be markin up! LoL I went to a nickelback concert and still in debt from it haha but i have a little money now! i think i will be spending my money elsewhere, prices are a little higher but im sick of dealin with ignorant people like that! Oh and thank you as well for having the bill out there to be hit :P
That never happened to me. Only weird looks, but no scratching the writing out. I think by doing that, she made the bill really bad looking. Maybe she had a bad day or something.
I agree- stop shopping there, and make sure the MANAGER knows why you stopped shopping there. I don't stop there, either, when I use a new store, I tell them why I started shopping there, too. The consumer rules!
whenever I have that happen, I say "if it's illegal to mark the bills you just broke the law and I don't want to be a part of a place that allows lawbreakers to work here" and never go back.
If it happens just tell them they've lost a customer, and that's that.
lol that might work as well lol i'm going to have to remember that for if it happens again
Well now I must step in here and make a few comments. All who have said tell the staff member they have lost a customer are speaking to dead ears. Employee's for the most part do not care if they have lost the company they work for a customer. Owners commission paid managers and sales people may care that they have lost money out of their pockets but hourly or salary paid workers (most) do not care. They say they care but they do not really. I have owned and operated service companies for the past 30 years as well as doing a great deal of secret shops over the years and customer service and employees that really care are far out numbered by those who want the largest paycheck for the least amount of work. Work ethic was once very stong and people took great pride in doing a good job … however now most employee's are looking for a free ride. I have found over the last 10 years it is harder and harder to find loyal hard working people who care as much about the business as the owners do and when they make a mistake are willing to be accountable for their actions.
Unions and government have made it easy for workers to do all little as they can to get a pay check and there are many avenues for lazy people to play the system and live off the hard workers in this world. An honest days work for an honest dollar was always the way when I was growing up … but the last few generations now think it is okay to get government hand outs or claim workers compensations for thing in my younger days we just worked through. When I broke my arm in my 20's I showed up the next day at work and asked my employee's to do my share of the lifting but I was there everyday to do what I could do. Now a days the employee would go on sick leave or workers comp. or U.I.. My shop was closed at 6pm. everyday but if I was still in the building and a customer came to the door I would open the door and welcome them in … not yell through the window "were closed come back tomorrow". Life for workers has become way to easy and slack in fact when I close my own business I think I will retire by going to work for some company and do as little as I can for my paycheck. And when a customer tells me about poor customer sercvice I will just roll my eyes and say sorry about that.
Okay I will put my sopa box away.
.
Yes DA had it done in alot of places when I used to live in Weyburn… it does get frustrating
Leave that box out BC…….
Bottom line, it's a matter of poor customer service, not poor work ethic that would be at play when you recieve a negative comment from an employee. Lots of people look at the notes we print on, and some of them don't like what we do - for some it may seem sacreligious. But not all of those people make a negative comment - It's people who have little understanding of good customer service that go so far to think that thier opinion should come between my money and thier employees pocket. These people if given the opportunity can tick off enough customers that the employer will begin to feel it in the pocket - when that happens, guess what? Hours get cut - the employer has to make cuts somewhere.
In a case of a small error you can allways speak to a supervisor, manager, or whomever - but if an employee is outright rude or incompetant, the employer in all likelyhood is aware and not doing anything about it. For these transgressions, no buisiness deserves to see a nickel of your hard earned money ever again, period. Tell everyone you know about the bad service, and ask friends and family to not shop there.
BC, I liked the start of your rant, but would like to argue a few things. I was in the private sector for years, and for some time I was in management for a fair size retail chain. I now am in a union (gasp!) in a government job (choke!) and feel I work just as hard as I did before I began this path. Last October I was hit by a car while in a crosswalk and got quite banged up - and I too went to work the next day. Our workgroup just celebrated that last year we averaged .5 sick days per employee (yes, point 5). This has nothing to do with being union, government, private, management, young or old. What we all do have in common is that we not only care about good customer service, we care about those we serve. Because of this, despite what we may think personally, we would never deride someone for what was writtten on a five dollar bill.
Thank you for the use of your box, BC
/wipes the sweat off his brow, steps off the box, and disappears into the crowd surrounding him
who's next….lol
For starters: is the company one that deserves employee pride?? or is it a company who is only there to make the almighty buck? do they give a flying blank on a rolling donut about their employees? do they know their names? their kids and spouses names? fair is fair. if you dont give a st about your employees or their lives etc, you dont deserve st back! you get what you dish out literally. what you reap, so shall you so.
well I'm done, I am going to go and drink a couple more and quietly pass out in my own little corner of the world.
"is the company one that deserves employee pride??"
Antics, thank you for bringing up a very valid point. Speaking as someone who works for one of these types of companies, I have to admit I don't give a sht who comes back again or not. The owners don't treat the employees with any respect at all, to them we're trained monkeys put there to make them money. If they don't care about our working conditions, why should we care how much more money they could make!
But as for scratching out the markings on a bill, it's un-necessary, and just plain rude. For as little as I care about my workplace, I still wouldn't be so btchy to a customer.
raja the oes
Your very welcome please borrow my soap box anytime. many employees do care about the company they work for (all of us old school people has not retired yet) but the new stream of employee's coming on line seem to have a more light look at work ethic. (hey it is only a job …you pay me to work ya want me to think too.) attitude in the work place has changed never would i have even talked back to my boss or gave hime bad attitude in my younger years (maybe my military background) but now as a boss i get young people giving me flack weekly. last year i fired a few for attitude and once this was done the others seemed to get the hint … but why must an employer have to go to such extremes. starts with how they are raised in the home i think but i have never had children of my own so i am unable to comment on child rearing.
BC, I agree with you on most. Having worked in the Liquor stores (and military, and schools, and elsewhere) for many years, there is indeed a lack of commitment to the job by many people. I get really ticked off when other clerks in the Liquor Store swear in front of customers - I kick customers out of the store for that often, and for arriving in the store drunk, but what to do with another unionized employee for swearing(after giving HER s**t!)?
I don't agree on one point though. If a customer comes running to the door after closing, wanting to make a purchase, I say too bad! Where were you for the last 11 and a half hours the store was open? This isn't just to be mean. Once all the clerks have cashed out, the manager has the computer network start to do its shut-down prodedures. We could stop it, but then we would have to restart, run a transaction, redo all of our days totals - which sucks when the printer is acting up in the first place. And, although staff not required can leave after cashout and closing, a minimum of two are required to stay behind until the computer does its shutdown…not because of the computer, but a simple matter of security for the last to leave. It reduces the chance of someone waiting at the back door. Altogether, serving one customer who is one minute late would delay the departure of two employees by at least 10 minutes - and we don't get overtime for that! Sorry, if you are too lazy to get off your butt to buy liquor when you know the store closes at nine, I say too bad. Go to the local Cold Beer and Wine Store and pay their 30% markup. Begging at the back door of the store and offering to pay a little extra doesn't work with me either. I won't risk my job for it. A military saying applies here:
Piss Poor Planning on Your Part Does Not Make For an Emergency on My Part!
Piss Poor Planning on Your Part Does Not Make For an Emergency on My Part!
Havent heard that saying before– but WOW Do I Like it!!!!!
Yep will keep this one in mind and use it whenever the need arises!! LOL Thanks Sarge
sarge my open the door after hours was pertaining to a small not government run or bank operation. those staff have numerous things to do before they can leave. i am talking the service type businesses where your two minutes late to pick up your car or a repaired item, or your dropping off an item for repair. i have always been in the service business so was in that frame of mind when i gave that example. i would never expect the government run operation to reopen the door nor a large store like walmart.
i guess i could have made my example clear.l
I did have a laugh this morning….I had a cashier roll her eyes at my five after reading "Please track this bill @ www.cdn-money.com" and then made her little comment about how that wasn't gonna happen - I collected my change, looked at her, and said "I guess the instructions are just to tough for you to follow, huh?" and walked out. I grinned the rest of the way to work!
What is with "these" people…….
Haha i love how you worded that raja! Thats too good, I'm going to have to keep that one in mind. The store that this happened to me at was the Great Canadian Wholesale and it was a lady i would gues to be in her 50's! Everyone keeps saying that the younger generation just doesn't care anymore… well this lady was older. Also on that point, I am from the younger generation, i work in a pub and beer store, and i take great pride in my work, and i work my rear end off for what i do make! So this can't be said about all younger people… I was raised quite differently then most people my own age thou, and literally everywhere that I have worked, when i did leave there were a lot of people saddened and not willing to go into there anymore becuz I wasn't there… so yeah, not all the younger generations are useless and brainless and not caring! :)
as we reach the end of winter only 6 - 8 weeks away i hope we get a few more good snow falls befor the end of march.
Ok, i just had to clear that up, im not one of "them" and it really does bother me that more people aren't taking pride in their jobs, and the bosses don't always care! I think a lot of people don't realize it, but when they are like this in a work place, many people take that as representing the person. And bosses should also notice things like this, i've worked with many rude beligerant(sp?) people and it drives me INSANE because you know darn well those people don't like being treated like crap when they go into an establishment
