I came home yesterday at 2:30 in the afternoon to find my door busted down and a couple rooms messed up. I'd been robbed = Never thought it would happen to our house, but I guess it does happen to most people sometime in their life.
Got my laptop, some dvds, some cash, and a few other minor things stolen. Concidering all the stuff they could have stolen in my house we got lucky here. Nothing was seriously damaged, the 2 dogs were ok (don't know why they broke in when there were 2 dogs barking at the door, but knowing my dogs they would have welcomed the robber in and played with them = ).
Getting everything but the cash back from insurance, which is good since they only took about 100 dollars in cash. Only big loss was all the documents and music I lost on my laptop. I had backed up alot of it though just 2 weeks ago so it's not too bad.
Guess it's a good idea to install an alarm system, we'll probably get one now.
Truly sorry to hear MmmBeer. Hopefully everything is replaced quickly, and thankfully (if there can be an upside) no one was at home to get hurt. All the "stuff" in the world can be replaced save for your family.
Hopefully an alarm will not only give you peace of mind and security, but will give you a drop in your insurance rate as well.
Sorry to hear that you were broken into but relieved to hear that your loss was relatively small.
We were broken into a few years back, we had talked about getting an alarm but never did…., like most people we thought it would "never" happen to us. We got alarm system just after the break in and it does give us some sense of security….
Sorry to hear about your break-in
& yes installing alarm systems are a good thing…having been victimized by thieves several times I can truly appreciate what it means to be victimized no matter how big or small the theft is. Its nice to get some re-assurance from alarm systems that hopefully will deter future burglars!!!
and with your dogs yet!! thats almost a sure bet that its someone you know. and that knows the dogs well enough. are they small or larger dogs?
:) I work for a moving company. We were moving someone's stuff to Weyburn.. Where this ladies family lived. ( she is displaced in mexico for an unknown amount of time. )
She has an alarm to which we had a code, but wrong.
we went in & did some packing a couple( friday or saturday ) days b4 & the security company phoned. We told them who gave us the code ( real estate company gave us the wrong code )
& who had booked us.. ( her mom )
so police never came that day, But we packed he phone. LOL
so then on Monday when we were loading the police came by, but if they were 15 minutes later we would have been GONE.
we got there at 8:30 & started loading. The police came at 11:15.
I hope this doesn't bust anyone sense of security, but the police never came for almost 3 hours with no phone call from the security company.
This is on a Monday morning when not much would be happening as for crime.
Just a thought for all you with security systems. Might want to get cameras like the store have. Then you might actually catch some of these criminals.
It is advisable to shop around in terms of a security system and security company. Test their response time from time to time to make sure they are on the ball.
You pay good money for the service and they should live up to any service guarantees that they make.
thank god they never hurt the dogs, they can take all the material things that are insured but don't hurt the loved ones. just curious what type of dogs do you have?
I think you will be happy w/ a security system. We put one in after my sister-in-law was broken into & it has served us well. One morning I left to take my dog for a walk & realized my tenant had let me out & I didn't have my keys. When I returned for them, the siren was going off & the security company calling, saying someone was at the bedroom window. When I checked there were fresh prints & a chair under my window. The person must have been trying to get in as soon as I left. I was very glad I didn't encounter them.
Oh MmmBeer I am so sorry about the breakin. Make sure you really consider what you had in your computer. Think about it because I have tons of information in my computer that should a thief come into my home and he is a hacker…well I do all my banking on my computer and I have scanned all my drivers licence and birth certific and credit cards. Now thinking maybe it might be smart to put all of that stuff on disk and delete it from my computer. We can all say ""well that won't happen to me "" well it can. sorry again for your loss.
Sorry to hear about your break-in, MmmBeer. It is always a shock and a disturbance to privacy.
Seems like Calgary is not as safe as it used to be 20 years ago. We had a neighbours house broken in to and got an alarm system right away after that. Lucky it never happened to us and hopefully never will.
