Now I guess I never have been listening very closely except on one instance i had understood that if we encounter a bill from the other sites, that we would just enter the bill and send it on its way. Now i have this jerk who enters my bill which i mark on both sides tells me he has stamped the bill for his site in red and suggests that i should be stamping my bills with red ink and iwould get more hits. I don't believe he should have put his stamp on the bill. What is everyone elses view on this matter. I guess I should be grateful that he gave me the hit…. :-)
You're right, take the hit and the high road and forget the other guy- he's playing by his own rules.
I agree with Idjit - when I find a WW or a WHIB bill I give them the hit, I don't log it here (maybe I should), and definately wouldn't restamp it.
I guess CMT is the 'nice tracker' site….
:)
I think that the generally accepted practice is to enter at WW or WHIB to give the person a HIT as well as entering here at CMT, without restamping…..
I'm new here and all, but I'll give my two cents. Maybe my opinion doesnt mean much; maybe its worth more, as an objective "outsider".
I think its ok to mark a bill that is already marked by a member of another site. As long as you are not coveing over the other mark, I think it is fine. And of course, you should enter the bill in the site it belongs to. I for one, think it would be great to find a bill with more than one site stamped on it. If I was a person who has never recieved a marked bill before, (or now, for that matter) I would go to BOTH sites and enter them.
I don't see a problem with "competition" between sites. I do see a problem with "jealousy" though. We are all doing this for the tracking of money thing. I say, do with that bill what you would do with any other bill, which is your property, and let the chips fall where they may.
Sorry for being new, but still giving an opinion. I`m sure some of you might think I don't know WTF I'm talking about. Haha

Generally, the accepted practice around all three sites has been to enter a marked bill on the marked site, and any others as well, without adding more stamps to the bill. The thinking behind this is that bills with multiple markings will likely be a target for over-enthusiastic bank tellers to send to the B of C for destruction. While we know that the B of C might not destroy a bill simply because it has stamps, I would suggest that multiple stamps would certainly increase the chances that destruction might happen.
Wetboy100: The beauty of this business is that no-one is going to firebomb your house for having an opinion, and I assure you that I respect yours, but some of us old-timers around here are not above offering a little history primer on topics such as these, particularly when a topic has been discussed as thouroughly as this one has.
BTW, welcome to the site!

I'll echo Idjit's comments about welcome to the site. As Idjit also mentioned this subject has been discussed numerous times and a "generally accepted practice" decided upon…
Opinions are good as at times they can be the stepping stone to important debate….
On an semi-related note, if you thought the CMT server has issues, at least I'm still around, answering questions and trying to track down the issues. From what I've read over at WHIB, the maintainers there have sorta dropped off the earth.

hey all of us were newbies at one time. Being new does not make your opinion less valuable, you deal witht he opinion for the value of the opinion. Besides, if the person does not say he stamped it, who would know??
DR. We know you would never drop us like yesterdays news we love your site and stand behind you 100%. When the site has bugs you fix them and if it takes time for that to happen we as your loyal followers will stand by you and give you any help we can. Keeping a site like this running smooth is a hard task and anyone who is crying about it is doing so under stress as any child would when their favorite toy breaks. I am one of the sites more heavy users and I have not mentioned once how the problems have ruined my bill entering style. I simple slowed down on entering bills allowing the same amount of time on the site as usual but just getting less done when on site. DR. we know you did not break the system or mucked with it to slow it down it is a tough problem that just needs time for you to work it out. When I was in the tv business people would expect that I could take the back off any tv and have it fixed in short order??? If it was that easy then I would have been rich real quick. This site is a massive work that took you years to build and if anyone here thinks that it always only takes a few minutes to fix things has no idea about electronics. We will be here today , tomorrow and forever as long as you allow us to play in your park. To my fellow CMT's back off and let the man do what he has done very well for years … anyone who thinks they can do better should set up their own site and show us what ya got. DR ya got my support 100%.
Right ON BC I could not of said it better!!- Yes dr we love the site and love playing on your turf- Thanks for all you do to maintain the site the way you do
It must me a "Labour of Love" - Thanks again and all the Best to you and yours.
BC sez: I have not mentioned once how the problems have ruined my bill entering style.
Me too, in fact, now I have time for an extra sip of my favorite beverage in between bills…
I agree with BC, I haven't complained, but any help we can give DR in timing of problems helps DR.
Infact I remember time when I was online, but not on CMT & DR asked me why I never told him the site was down.
DR need to know of the problems we encounter to fix them, but I agree with BC that I can easily wait to enter bills, or read the forums.
Yes, I see the point of possible destruction of the bill. I was speaking more to the "ethical" or "fairnes" part of the issue, in relation more to "competition" between users (sites). (and yes, I can see how that ties in…. ie. is it ethical to re-stamp a bill if it increases the likelihood of it being destroyed?)
I suppose a lot of it depends on how a bill is marked in the first place …. and second place. Colour, size, and placement of marks, and other factors would of course make a difference in the lifespan of a bill.
I have only (hand) marked my bills on one (front) side so far.
dont know bank teller's criteria for sending bills to be destroyrd. I would find it interesting and helpful to know more. I would guess that all else being equal, a stamped bill has a better chance of surviving the shredder than a hand marked bill.
Also, please, everyone, don't take my questioning, opinions and discussion as my being nessesarily "right" or know-it all. I'm just debating and offering up opinions here.
and thank you for the welcome to the site. There are a friendly bunch of users here

Rudyk! Welcome back!
you know wetboy I go to my bank down the road and get my fives and other bills. I am in a scooter so can not go to far. All the staff know me there and they are super people. When I come in usually Lori or Shawn or Brittany or others pop up and tell the other tellers " get your fives out". They are so wonderful to me. Now I did ask Lori if in fact the bank would get rid of the bill because it is stamped. She told me no way. Lori is the manager of the bank so I think I can believe her. Even 5 dollar bills that have been torn in half, if someone has taped it up the bank will continue to treat it as viable currency. And she did point out to me that could be treated differently at another banking instition. Having said that, she told me that the bank is usually the first to stamp on the face of the bill with a sqaure red or blue or green stamp. They don't take into consideration the Queens face or anything else.
Yes I sure do agree with you wetboy this is a great site and super friendly members..willing to give their viewpoints and instruction to anyone who needs it. And DR the creator and brains of this site has a heavy duty job and considering he has a life..(I am guessing on that comment) LOL. He has had to resolve issues in many ways and make changes to accommadate us. Well he is a champion.
PS don't let Pooga read this because I am sure that i will be told not to compete in a spelling bee…. :-)
Sounds like you have a knowledgeable bank manager who isn't personally offended by marked money. I like where she acknowledges "the bank is usually the first to stamp on the face of the bill with a sqaure red or blue or green stamp".
I Agree, Dr does a great job. I do not complain about the site problems, I report some only to try and give info that may help indicate the problem. That is something all of us should do, we just have to be patient and let Dr do his work. If there is any particular info that could help, then I hope he might let us know what to report and what is just getting in his way. That way we can help in giving him the info he needs.
Interesting. I am learning more on every visit to this site. Looks like my instincts were right when I said that I would mark a bill that has already been marked. Yes, I have seen bank stamps on bills, so I dont think the odds of bills being destroyed because of money trackers marking them is great.

That would depend on how much it offends the bank employee who sees it. I have seen commercial cage tellers put individual notes and coins to the side if they're too bad (or unusual) to circulate. Heck, that's how I pick up 1 and 2 dollar notes as well as silver dollars and 50 cent pieces!
