I can remember my dad telling me that he used to be able to buy a pack of cigarettes, a coke, and a chocolate bar with a dollar. I can only remember being able to buy a pop and and a bag of chips with a dollar.
And MAD mags were 25 cents. Any one have any old ones?

My DAD remembers chocolate bars being a nickel.
I remember 10 cent chocolate bars, 12 cent pop from the vending machines - in GLASS bottles - and real cork in the bottle top! and A&W Root Beer in the half-gallon jugs.
When was the last time you saw pop in a glass bottle?
How about this ad, for the Saskatoon Brewing Company, that read "Good for father, mother, sister, brother! 12 quarts delivered ice cold to your door $1.25." It was a full page ad on the back of the Saskatoon Star, (still have it around somewhere) and it had a picture of a horse drawn wagon loaded with crates of beer packed in ice. Now, those were the good ol' days!

When I first started working in a bar, beer was 20 cents for a glass of draft and 42 cents for a bottle. Minimum wage was $1.25 an hour.
And if you took off ALL the different government mark-ups and taxes, beer would be about $5 per dozen RIGHT NOW!
Remember when the new 20s came out? (mid 70's)? They were so colourful that a couple of Canadians got arrested in LA for passing phony money. Then the new 1s came out. And in a dark place (the bar I worked in), I got burnt. I hadn't seen a new 1, and I thought it was a 20. Lucky guy got $19.80 in change to buy one glass of draft! Guy took the money and left right away! That hurt!
If the grammer police are going to be on my tail I will try and talk the right way. I am just used to talking on my Microsoft .Net Messenger Service©. Sorry for any inconvience I have brought upon you.

I was in Indiana in August 1973 with a couple of new $50.00's trying to exchange them for American, I spent 2.5 hours waiting for the bank manager because the tellers wouldn't accept the bills. The manager phoned his regional office and couldn't get a yes or no from his boss so he eventually phoned the US Mint and got a discription of the bills from them. I finally got out of there after 4 hours, as I walked out the door I could hear the tellers trying to get the bills for their own collections.
BTW the exchange rate at the time was $1.32 American.
I used to write that way cause I didn't correct my errors, or didn't care about Punctuation.

Wow, fast response from wes_bos, what he lacks in spelling he makes up in punctuality. I just commented on his bad netiquette at about 9:15am EST.

Go to any island in the Caribbean and they have Fanta pop in thick glass bottles. Lots of sand=lots of glass, plastics are hardly seen or used over there.
P.A. Beverages in Prince Albert was bottling glass bottles until about 1 or2 years ago I used to sell them in my store. They were the only ones in western Canada. I still have empties I didn't send back. The collectors they had out were a small bottle and had the names of all there distibution centers on.
