Saskatchewan Time

Right now in Calgary, on May 29th, it's 9:15pm. What time is it in Saskatoon? Because when I change my profile to say that I'm in Saskatchewan Time, the login list shows me logging in at 9:15pm also. Is that not correct?

Yes.

Alberta is the same time as Saskatchewan in the summer, and Manitoba is the same time in the winter.

Pooga

No, time is still wrong.

9:27 here. Log shows 10:27.

It also affects note entries.

dr

Ya, of course it's wrong. Because you have Central Time set in your profile. And don't tell me otherwise, I just checked the database. How is the system supposed to know that you want to use Saskatchewan time when you have Central Time selected?

Please, pretty please, go to "Edit Profile" and select Saskatchewan Time. :)

Well, I live in a place where it IS Central Time. :-)

(BTW - How is the system supposed to know that you want to use Saskatchewan time when you have Central Time selected?
There is no such animal as "Saskatchewan Time". The database should know where I live from the postal code.)

It is probably easier to select Saskatchewan Time rather than have dr program a selection for Central Time that can have Daylight Savings Time selected as On/Off.

dr

Okay, Pooga. I give up. I created the "Saskatchewan Time" specifically for this situation and then you go an confuse the situation. Yes I know you're in the Central timezone but you don't do daylight savings. But there is no support for that in CMT right now.

And no, you can't use postal code because there are border towns that stick to the other province's timezone. I don't know the names off hand but there are a few BC towns that are in the Mountain Timezone. Up until this new database I had no way to know that. But the thing is, only SK is muddled up enough to be one timezone for half the year and another for the other part of the year. My answer to that complexity is "Saskatchewan Time". Take it or leave it. :)

OK. I'll take it. :-)

(Wow! I think that's the first time in 5 years I've ever managed to frustrate dr! Well, except for not making him an IPA.)

dr

Ya, between the lack of sleep on the weekend and the 'other' complaints of late I think you got the better of me. :) But I still consider you a friend, even if you did deny me that IPA. Though, in your defence, you did give me those those unmarked beers. You know, the ones that we had to meet in the dark alley to exchange? :)

Lord_Comedy

:) Well actually both DR & pooga were both partially correct.
We are Central "Standard" Time zone ( standard meaning we don't use daylight savings time )
The fact of the matter is thought Pooga, Saskatchewan & Arizona both have separate time zones due to not using daylight savings time. Maybe this is to make it easier for programming. When you set your time for your computer what do you use? Central time ( GMT -6:00 ) Or Saskatchewan (GMT - 6:00 )

Pooga

When you set your time for your computer what do you use? Central time ( GMT -6:00 ) Or Saskatchewan (GMT - 6:00 )

Neither actually. In the Mac Date & Time preferences, you click on a general time zone, then chose the closest city. In the GMT -6:00 zone there 14 cities to choose from. Two Canadian, Winnipeg and Regina. Clicking on Winnipeg gives you CDT. Clicking on Regina gives you CST.

Interestingly enough, in GMT -7:00, clicking on Pheonix gives a different time than Denver, as you mentioned.

dr

This is why software costs so much to develop; all the silly exceptions… why can't everyone just be the same? :)

Pooga

why can't everyone just be the same?

"Variety is the spice of life"

Let me put it in terms that hit close to home. What if there was only one beer in the whole world, and it was Budweiser? Now THAT would be a living hell!

dr

Now THAT would be a living hell!

Perhaps. But then again, you likely wouldn't know any better and no one would make fun of you for drinking 'brand X'. And no one would threaten your life when you told them that Keith's is actually the biggest lie and perhaps the worst example of an IPA in the world. :)
