I wonder if some new users are not a little confused at the start-up. I have seen a few over the last few weeks that say in their profile that they wanted to see where a bill has been, then don't enter it!
An example:

If a person enters a bill in the first open box, it can be entered anonymously. But if they enter the serial, and then decide to register, there is no indication that the bill has been entered, which it hasn't. Maybe we need some way to remind them to re-enter the serial right after registering if the first box contained an entry?

I agree. I pointed a friend to the site and they couldn't figure out the start page. They haven't been back since.
I like the WW because it has the entry bill form right on the start page.. We shouldn't have the user totals on there cause no one cares, If they are a new user.. Got to go cause school bell rang.
Good idea, plus a mention for "FRENCH SPEAKERS WELCOME/WANTED" should do the trick. Perhaps BIENVENUE FRANCOPHONE.
I Find the start page relly easy. I like to look at whoes in the top 15 and latest logins. when i went to the wg site (same layout at WW) to enter a amercain bill it took me a while to find out how to join up and enter the bill. maybe there should be a page b4 they enter it anon saying "would you like to sign up or enter anon?
No when we log onto the site, the top ten is displayed. When we aren't, a bill entry form takes the top tens place, to add bills quick and easily. There is also the other bars and such, but just in the place of the top ten would be the bill entry form.
What I am saying is that if someone finds a marked bill and come to the site for the very first time, they don't care if I'm in second or last. They are there just to enter the bill. once they are a member, they can log on and see the stats..
Anyone get my drift?

I recomended a chat line months ago, I think a year ago now… Dr though there wasn't enough traffic, I don't know the whole story. Etc, etc.
There is a chat room for CMT, but no one uses it. Thats all I remember.

This is especially the case, considering that most traffic to the site comes from regular, repeat users. We seem to get a lot of anonymous hits but we also get a lot of new users too (the majority of which never come back anyway). I get the occasional email from people who say they don't know what to do and I reply with my canned response. But overall, I think the number of confused new users vs the number of non-confused new users is rather low. And the ones that are confused I am willing to bet are confused by most sites, and are probably confused about this whole "internet" thing. So unless someone has a suggestion more specific than "make it easier or less confusing", I'm gonna spend my time adding new features for us, the regular users and converting the site to French. :)

yeah…how does this new fangled "inner-web" thingy work? When I put in "How do I find information on knitting?" in that webcrawler-spider page it doesn't give me what I want! So much faster just using a good old fashioned library..sarcasm LOL

Perhaps for new users / anonymous entries, after entering the serial number, a message could pop up saying:
"Did you know you can enter the serial numbers of ALL the bills you have, even if they are not marked? Go ahead, and be sure to write the website down on the bill!"
