I was at school getting photos taken when the first and second towers collapsed. I was just waking up, although, when the first plane hit. watched untill I had to go to school, I don't think I even ate. Than skipped school for two days to watch the tragic events.

I was sleeping, then the wife called and told me to watch the news…NOW…
The day before I booked our trip to Cuba for Jan.
I was a little freaked out for awhile about the trip, but
all turned out well………
Two days before the trip the battery died in my laptop
so I had to put it in the luggage instead of playing games for six hours.

BDKINGSTON

I was on my way to the golf course at Rosthern when the first plane hit and the second hit when I was a few miles down the road..

I was at work. Just happened to be between brews, so when my partner called to tell me about what was happening, I turned on the TV in time to see the second attack.

Kitkat

I got up to watch the morning news like I always did. Was totally stunned to see those events happening real time. Told my husband to GET UP NOW. Told him I loved him.

I was on strike from my Federal Civil Service job, so I wasn't going in to work. I had decided I wouldn't walk the picket line that day because I wanted to go up to Porcupine Plain, Sask, to see a farmer about an old Willy's Jeep he had for sale. I turned on the TV to catch some Canada AM before I left, only to see the first tower burning, and saw the second tower get hit a few minutes later.

I felt kinda guilty because I figured that I should have put on my Reserve Force uniform and headed down to the Armoury, just in case something more happened, but darnit, I wanted to see that Jeep. So I spent the rest of the day on the road travelling, and listening to the events unfold over the radio.

Whatever happened to that plane that was reported crashed or shot down over Colorado? Did they finally admit it was a false story?

BTW, I bought the Jeep.

Red Rider

I had just go up at 5 minutes to 6 am to go to work. Turned on the tube and was glued to it. Saw the second plane hit. I thought at the time it was military because it was green. I remember quite clearly what I did that entire day.

My understanding was, they had the go ahead to shoot it down. But never made it to the plane before it crashed. Some reports put parts of the plane too far away to be a crash. But in the end, if it was shot down, they aren't saying.

I didn't have class until 1 so I slept until 11, went to school(no one was talking about it in the physics building?), came home(I didn't turn on the TV that day…weird) then finally at about 6pm, I was talking to my sister-in-law on netmeeting and she told me what happened. I was like..NO WAY! and turned on the TV to see that I was only just about 12 hours behind the news! LOL

wes_bos

just after recess at school the teachers stoped all work and we had a prayer assembly and then they made clear what had happened to all the frightned kids.

I was getting ready for school. My mom woke up to the radio talking about it. She turned on the T.V. I got to see the second tower collapse. Then I got to go to school and watch it for a while.

Personally, I think that the States needed that. Sure, its as sad thing to happen, but think about it. 3,000 people died. When the U.S.</b> atomic bomb hit Hiroshima, it killed 300,000 people. And think about all the people they have killed since then. They slaughtered thousands of civilians in all the wars they take part in. They need this atack. It showed them just a fraction of what they do to the rest of the world.

kaiser

Thank you. I know why no one says that. Its because they think that Bosnia or Afghanistan needed to be attacked. And the U.S. was totally innocent. But the U.S. needed to be attacked. They were not innocent. Even the Albanians and the Taliban were less innocent than them.

First off, deaths from the blasts at Hiroshima and Nagasaki resulted in about 90,000 deaths each. The death toll of civilians and military would have been significantly higher had the US been forced to commit to a ground invasion of Japan, and the war may not have ended until as late as 1947.

The government of Japan was a military dictatorship, based on the culture of Bushido. Traditionally, military dictatorships do not surrender, they have to be destroyed. Japan's cultural history was not simply that they were our equals, but that they were our betters. (Ever see Shogun?) Militarism and the belief of Japanese supremecy was so deeply imbedded in their culture chauvanism that they had to be absolutely defeated…a simple military defeat was not good enough to defeat them, they had to be completely crushed, the people themselves had to give up and all elements of Bushido and Samuri, and a thousand years of martial tradition, destroyed. Japan is now ruled by a merchant class, as are the western nations.

Like Japan, fundamentalist Islam is culturally chauvanistic. The Taliban's Committee for the Preservation of Virtue and the Prevention of Vice tried to suppress all traces of Western culture. People would be beaten for possession of tape recordings of western music, or for having books containing western ideas. Conversion from Islam to any other religion was an offence punishable with death, often after months of torture. It destroyed the statues of the giant stone Buddahs because they believe all non-Islamic (and many Islamic) practices are inferior to their brand of Islam. It's not just that their extremists believe that Islam is entitled to rule the world. Their religion tells them that God Himself has said they will. And yet, secular western nations keep defeating them. For hundreds of years they have been in decline. They keep being shown to be second (or third) rate compared to the accomplishments of cultures who do not follow Islam.

This war was thrust upon the West by militant Islamic extremists, whose belief system cannot tolerate our culture to exist. To the extremists, the western nations - in particular the US - are not just threats; they are blasphemy. For them to exist and to do what they do, the Q'uran must be wrong. But it is the Word of God and cannot be wrong, hence it is the duty of extremist Muslims to defeat, to completely destroy the heathen and to establish the Islamic utopia on earth that the Q'uran promises.

That is also what existed in Japan going into World War II, and to ultimately pacify Japan it was necessary to completely gut its culture and rebuild it. There have been few nations as radically changed in such a short time as Japan between 1941 and 1951, when the occupation officially ended and a formal peace treaty was signed with the new government of Japan.

Of course it is not the intent of the US to destroy Afghanistan. The true ruler of Afghanistan was bin Laden and the al-Qeda, who protected the Taliban. The Taliban leader Mullah Omar, is bin Laden's father-in-law.

Before this war ends, the Islamic nations, especially the Arab ones, will have to change as radically as Japan did. We can't merely defeat them militarily; we have to break their spirit.

This line could evolve into the historical validity of neo-imperialism which has defined social, economic and political evolution of our species. This is truly the sad truth of the 20th/21st Century; we have not evolved socially in any sense. The United States is our grim reality in one sense. It's hard not to be cynical. Afghanistan, Iraq are merely modern 'Carthage'.I think George Bush is more like the elephant than Hannibal however. He, of course, believes he is the 'head cheese' of Rome. I'm glad we're not their enemies.

WOW Sarge!
So much to think about.
Thank you for the comment.
It's always good to see others comments and to rethink what you thought was right.

Don't thank him too much, it might go to his head.

Besides, he just copied it from his History 302 mid-term!

I was there. I used to work for Wellington.

It was in the days of the old infantry section tactics…

"Front Rank…FIRE!"
"Rear rank…step through!
"Rear rank…reload!"
pause - 2 - 3
"Front rank…FIRE!"
