The basic idea of a University was made in the 300's B.C. Aristotle taught a class of people he thought deserved it. They learned about all of his theroies. In the class included such promising philosophers as Plato, Archimedes(I think.) and others. They held class at a orchird type place outside of Athens. The Greek name for the area was "Acadamy." So, aftera while, it became known as the Acadamy. After Aristotle was arrested, Plato took up his position and taught at the Academy. Thats the history of Universities.

I didn't get this off the Internet, but recalled it from a while ago. So some of it is not accurate. I know I got the dates and/or the people wrong, but they were all involved.

You might find some interesting stuff on this site. I recommend the 'Phoenix Rising.

And here is an interesting email I got today as well:

Anyone remember this?? It was 1987! At a lecture the other day they were playing an old news video of Lt. Col. Oliver North testifying at the Iran-Contra hearings during the Reagan Administration.

There was Ollie in front of God and country getting the third degree, but what he said was stunning!

He was being drilled by some senator; "Did you not recently spend close to $60,000 for a home security system?"

Ollie replied, "Yes, I did, Sir."

The senator continued, trying to get a laugh out of the audience, "Isn't that just a little excessive?"

"No, sir," continued Ollie.

"No? And why not?" the senator asked.

"Because the lives of my family and I were threatened, sir."

"Threatened? By whom?" the senator questioned.

"By a terrorist, sir" Ollie answered.

"Terrorist? What terrorist could possibly scare you that much?"

"His name is Osama bin Laden, sir" Ollie replied.

At this point the senator tried to repeat the name, but couldn't pronounce it, which most people back then probably couldn't. A couple of people laughed at the attempt.

Then the senator continued. "Why are you so afraid of this man?" the senator asked.

"Because, sir, he is the most evil person alive that I know of", Ollie answered.

"And what do you recommend we do about him?" asked the senator.

"Well, sir, if it was up to me, I would recommend that an assassin team be formed to eliminate him and his men from the face of the earth."

The senator disagreed with this approach, and that was all that was shown of the clip.

By the way, that senator was Al Gore.

Also: Terrorist pilot Mohammad Atta blew up a bus in Israel in 1986. The Israelis captured, tried and imprisoned him. As part of the Oslo agreement with the Palestinians in 1993, Israel had to agree to release so-called "political prisoners". However, the Israelis would not release any with blood on their hands. The American President at the time, Bill Clinton, and his Secretary of State, Warren Christopher, "insisted" that all prisoners be released. Thus Mohammad Atta was freed and eventually thanked the US by flying an airplane into Tower One of the World Trade Center.

This was reported by many of the American TV networks at the time that the terrorists were first identified. It was censored in the US from all later reports.

Yah, just another urban myth. Oliver North never said those things.
Go here to see where this originated. When you get there, do a search for Oliver North.

Actually, you should read the story, it's quite good.

Duh, that's what I get for not thinking it through.

I should have remembered that Osama was a US creation in the first place. Taught him well didn't they?

STORMCHASER77

Sleeping. My mothers boyfriend heard me stumble upstairs and the first thing he said to me was "HAVE YOU SEEN THE NEWS, THIS WORLD IS CRAZY". I then sat down to watch the news. Needless to say I didn't have a great start to my day.

Interesting points of view, Sarge and kaiser…I especially enjoyed your summary of historical events, Sarge…

kaiser…I don't believe any nation or group of people deserves or "needs" to be attacked…yes, US foreign policy has unfortunately hurt many innocent people for the benefit of the better good…to say that violence is an acceptable form of retaliation against anyone is not acceptable, in my mind…the pen is mightier than the sword… ;)

I was at work opening up the Gas station, when the friend of a guy I was working with called and told us the news.
We diddn't believe him, but just then the second plane had flown into the Towers.
We grabbed a radio and listened to it all day.
Then we had some kind of good luck, a van/motorhome came into the shop for some work, it just so happens that it had a T.V. in the back of it, so we popped the side door open and watched the rest from there.

To me, violence is necessary only when in self-defence, not in advance of a supposed attack or to depose a government. It is up to the individual nations to decide for themselves what is the best way to govern their people. I don't understand why any way of life other than a liberal democracy is chosen by other nations. Perhaps I will learn more in the coming months as I am currently taking a Political Science course at U of R. Very interesting subject. I must admit I am naive when it comes to the topic of World Politics, but I would like to learn.

It's all about economics. Money decides. This is the essence of any form of neo-colonialism/imperialism. America works for America's economic interest.

Sarge

I'd rather not see a war either :)
but I would prefer that a pre-emptive strike take place OVER THERE before they set off some weapon of mass destruction here.

Simple math…a few thousand fanatics somewhere first; or possible 10's of thousands in New York or Chicago or Toronto, followed by the few thousand fanatics.

Before this war ends, the United Nations, especially the Americans, will have to change as radically as Japan did. We can't merely defeat them militarily; we have to break their spirit.

aboadway

The best offence is to economically punish the countries that harbour the terrorists…no more business, no more money…until the terrorists are gone…
