So I finally tried the IPA (India Pale Ale) today, Pooga. Oh my was that EVER amazingly good. Had that distinct taste that a good IPA should have. I loved it; it's the only thing I've tasted to date which rivals my first IPA (from a local Seattle brewery) or the IPA I had on my first trip to England in 2000. Also gave a sip to a couple of friends this weekend at a BBQ and educated them; like most Canadian's, they [used to] think of IPA as Alexander Keith's, which of course is a good lager (I think it tastes just like Molson Canadian personally), but it crap if they are trying to brew an IPA. No offence to any of you Maritimer's, it's a good beer, just not what I consider an IPA.

dr. - The best beer I ever tastedd came from P.E.I. It was called Clancy's Pale Ale and had to have been the nectar of the Gods. I tried to get the Manitoba Liquor Control Commission to bring some into the Winnipeg area but they refused. They said I could special order it through them but I would have to order a pallet load of it. With shipping they where talking about $ 17,500 so I very politely declined.
BUT if you ever visit Canada's smallest province, try it. I know you'll be impressed.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Unfortunately, our CEO thinks that because it doesn't taste like Keith's, people will think that it is no good. They have been conditioned to think that that is an IPA, so ours would be too different.
But the issue isn't dead, discussion and testing continues.
Is that CEO guy the biggest moron ever? No offense. Does he even drink beer? Even Big Rock's IPA has that IPA taste, though perhaps 50-75% of what yours has. Besides, the companies of the world that succeed are not the ones that follow the leader, they are the ones willing to look outside of the box, push the envelope, whatever cliche you want to use. It would be sad if we lost IPA forever because of those idiots at Alexander Keiths. :( And incidentally, I'm not sure who came up with that slogan, but the whole "those who like it, like it a lot" is the dumbest thing I've ever heard.
On that note, do you have any idea why their IPA does taste like regular crap lager? And when that started?

You've met him. That award last year that got you in Macleans.
As for why it tastes the way it does, it's a Labatt product, what do you expect?
Yes, I know I've met him. Just wondering what the heck is up with his beer judgement. Have you guys done any trials with beer drinkers?

"Those who like it, like it a lot"
Finally someone pointed out how terrible that is, made me laugh. Well done bro. I like to add to the slogan, "and those who don't like it, don't like it 'cause it makes them vomit and twitch."
"Those who like it, like it a lot"…makes those who like it sound like raging alcoholics… lol
I hereby volunteer my services…
Yah, Ill guzzle a wobly pop! lol
I as well will volunteer my services for the cause….
I noticed a couple of you are avid GW fans (I believe Pooga works at the brewery?)…that is my favourite beer…I like it, and I like it a lot!!! lol
I like to support the local guys, but it really helps that the beer is great, too! My personal fav is Western Lager…I also like to throw in the odd case of Sask Gold…for that exxxtra kick!
Hey, why can't I find your beer in a 24 case?
I believe Pooga works at the brewery?
Yep, I make the beer
Hey, why can't I find your beer in a 24 case?
Just too many SKUs. By having just 12s and 18s we can keep the stock rotating quicker, which means fresher product. At one time we had 6s and 24s, but found that with that many SKUs, some sold quicker than others, resulting in some old product on the shelves.
I used to drink a fair ammount of GW. I quit because it made me fart too much. I remember friends complaining about that too.
I havn't had GW in years, does it still do that?
It's not the beer, it's the CO2. And only if you drink a lot. :-)
Canned beer is higher in CO2, plus the shape and angle of the opening means that you swallow air as well. Sounds a bit strange, but canned beer should beer decanted into a glass. Sort of defeats the purpose of a can though.
No more talk of beer unless you guys (GW that is) are gonna produce an IPA… :)

beer, beer, beer, beer, beer, BEER! :-P
Here's a new marketing strategy. 'Farting is healthy, it helps prevent diverticulosis. Drink our lager, ale etc. By the way, what is it called when you punch a hole in the base of the can, pop the top, and force the beer down the gullet at warp speed?

Heh, when I went to university it was called "shotgunning." I don't know what the kids are calling it these days.

I'm in the midst of a major, random tax audit from Revenue Canada or whatever they call it. I think I'll try 'shotgunning' this evening. Thanks.
Really? Wow. Did you do anything funny (ie. big jump/reduction in income, claim a car, etc?) on your taxes this year or was it "completely random"? Of course, randomness is a whole topic on it's own and something CpSc students study at some point in their university studies. And ya, this is a bit off topic. :)
