User location

Right now when a new user joins up, his 'show location' flag is set to 'off' by default. That's the way dr wants it. But, for example, if I would really like to know about the Saskatoon users, I can only go by what shows up in a search, or by guessing. I think that location should be mandatory. But then again, maybe the default should be set to 'on'.

So how about a quickie poll? Vote for one of the following!

A) Default set to 'off' (current setup)
B) Default set to 'on'
C) Location not user controlled (always on)

I'm voting C!

Voting: B
Option for viewed location would be the users. (A little privacy is nice.) If I really want to know where a user comes from I click on the bill serial number. Most times it's usually correct as to where it was entered or gotten. New users rarely provide details in their profiles. Don't want to provide info or don't know what can be done with the profile.

Cee all the CCCCC's, come on now its about time. How is it an invasion of anyone's privacy to know where the user is from? Unless you're a postal worker you cannot discern the address from the code. Ya, ya ya….but I digress.

Privacy is an issue with some people, but I like to see where the users are from. I work in towns with a population of a little more than a thousand people and my village consists of only a couple of hundred. But if you live in even Saskatoon with a few hundred thousand your privacy should be saved.

ANGLOFROG

I still don't see how mentioning which tenth/twelvth? of the country could reveal your identity. I'd just like to know what province people are from.

I vote C, If you want to know where some one if from you jsut have to click on one of there bills and there it tells you. Another thing is that personal info should be shown for all users not jsut the ones over 16. My freind is joining the site and wants to see how much he has entered and cant! I VOTE C!

Pooga

I like Anglo's idea of AT LEAST having the province mandatory. Then the default to 'on' wouldn't be as onerous.

wes: If you want to know where some one if from you jsut have to click on one of there bills and there it tells you.

I know that, but attack it from the other direction. We have 4,000 users. Start clicking and tell me which ones are from Saskatoon. Email me the list tonight.

BDKINGSTON

I agree with B if it states the city or town. If it only gives the province then I agree C would be favourable as this would still allow user privacy if they are so inclined…Or another option could be for searhes to be done by city or town which would give the user a list of all users in the city or town requested. Good for when we travel and want to meet others in other locations if they are agreeable.

Kitkat

I think BDKINGSTON summed it up just right. However, DR probably has enough things to to with the site before he even starts thinking about this!

C, privacy shouldn't really be an issue because they are giving their location when they enter the bill.
