antics

you could just stay out of the controversial forum. it may as well be called the honeybabe column.

Gotchya!

From now on, "Controversial' will also be known as "Honeybabe news'

And important things will be in this forum.

LOL!!

I think you are being a bit too hard on Honeybabe. She is a serious tracker and has entered a lot of bills in a short space of time. She is entitled to her opinion, and if you disagree, you can ignore her postings, as many of us do. I wouldn't want us to get into the practice of ostrasizing someone whose political beliefs we don't share. Over the past three years I have seen more than one person on a soapbox!

os tra cize‚
verb (used with object), -cized, -cizing.

  1. to exclude, by general consent, from society, friendship, conversation, privileges, etc.

if many of us are "ignor[ing] her postings", haven't we, de facto, ostracized her? yeah, pedantic point…

yes, honeybabe is entitled to an opinion, but where is the boundary for such opinions on a site dedicated to MONEY TRACKING. giving honeybabe its own forum calld "Controversial" was a totally weenie way out of dealing with the problem when it likely should have just been told to stfu. and so under the self-satisfaction of marytrdom, the pollution of the forums continues and the signal-to-noise ratio is likely the worst it has ever been.

yeah… soapboxes have been dragged out before, but usually in support of a personal passion or intelligent alternative perspectives. simply pasting self absorbed links to World Wide Wackos doesn't make the freedom-of-speech cut, in my opinion. has honeybabe EVER actually composed and posted an original word of its own??? if and when it gets on a soapbox, it will have my rapt attention.

and as for honeybabe being a "serious tracker"… i am frequently dubious of that, as well.

Glad to have you back (sorta?), even if you don't approve of my solution. I agree that it's questionable that anything controversial belongs here but with any community there are things that with go 'out of scope' and I'd rather have those in a forum I can ignore rather than see them creep into the 'proper' money forums. I guess if you see this as purely a money tracking site then the forum doesn't belong but if it's a community then I would contend that it should stay. Either way, I don't subscribe to that forum so I really don't keep track of it's use one way or the other.

Furthermore, I've posted a policy change for that forum and remove the offending posts.

And finally, that all said, I am working on a way to reduce the signal to noise ratio. I'll keep you posted.

hey dr!

thanks for noticin' (thus spake eyore) but i'm not really "back" as such. i do poke around the forums now and then and i was sorta curious as to where i'd be sitting if i actually were a tracker, so i have been entering a few notes. i've never been able to reign in my penchant for posting acerbic commentary, so that still happens, on occasion. :)

but i DO have to report that my "leaving" was a truly liberating experience. 'twas nice to learn that i could easily live without money tracking (despite all the horror stories of withdrawal cast in my direction). plus it really is nice to speak one's mind with no worry of retribution or castigation, guided only by my own compass of what i feel is fitting and proper – so that i do.

in that vein, i'll express kudos for your decision to poke your head into the "Controversial" Forum. it needed to be policed. dissent is a wonderful thing in any democracic community – but when it exists without rules or guidance, it is anarchy. good on ya!

Sarge

Actually rudyk, I think the 'controversial' forum would be the ideal tool for your needs. As DR says, it is intended for people to speak their minds (no links), and I imagine for heated discussions as well.
