When entering comments on a note, I believe that the entry limit is 250 characters. A lot of sites have character entry limits on e-mail or comments, but what I value is the character countdown line, usually below the text entry area. Something to let people know how much more they can type in.
eg. a character counter would have allowed this hit comment to be briefer.
Great suggestion, we see alot of comments that are just getting started when the end is cut off. If you knew you only have so many characters left you would be more concise. With 250 or 255 characters you have lots of room, just not enough for a novel.
The idea with the counter is good. I guess dr wants the comments as short as possible, since each character uses some bytes (space) on the server.
