I am terribly distraught! One of the cashiers at the local Co-op store asked me on Wednesday why I'm always asking for my bills to be changed into other bills. When I explained it to her, she just sort of shook her head. I thought that was to be the end of it , & went my merry way. Well… when I went in today (Saturday), the manager, THE MANAGER!!!! came over to me & asked me to step into his office. (Took me back to my high school days.) The guy then ordered me to STOP bringing in my "defaced" bills… the store would no longer accept them. Well, I mean! That doesn't leave me very many more places in this little berg to get my stamped bills circulating. Hmph! I was having so much fun, too! That sort of punctured my balloon a wee bit.
I would find another store to shop at. If your money is not good enough there, then it will be good enough somewhere else. I dont sell groceries but we take marked bills here!! Not sure how digestible this type of stuff is though. LOL
Seeing as you are not really overdoing it (189 entries) I am surprised. Give the manager the number for the Bank of Canada and tell him to call. If you can tell what denonination the note is, it's not defaced.
If he continues to be an idiot, shop in Langenburg or Bredenbury, or even Yorkton or Russell.
The way the law reads, if they refuse to accept your legal notes in exchange for product, you are deemed to have paid for it and can walk away with it.
Which is why the signs "We Do Not Accept $50 or $100" always annoy me.
You can print out this letter and show it to the manager, it has the phone number on it.
I would show him the letter and tell him that he has a choice….accept the money or be boycoted by you and everyone that you know and everyone that you will tell your story to. Churchbridge is only about 1000 people so it won't take long for the word to get around. See what that does to his attitude!
I have received 2 recent anonymous hits from Churchbridge so not everyone has that attitude!
I think that was quiet unprofessional from the store manager. If you have a choice to shop somewhere else, I would and keep on spending your marked bills. Don't let this mishap encourage you, twinsmum. You are not doing anything wrong and if the Co-op has that attitude maybe they don't need you as customer. Happy tracking :)
I can't believe the manager of a store could be so ignorant. I'd just go in again & try to make a small purchase with a stamped bill. and if they cause trouble, make a scene. (but then again, I like to cause trouble!) -Ask if they intend to refuse all bills from all customers with any sort of stamp on them. I've seen numerous bills with stamps from a bank on them, will those not be accepted?
If you are shopping at a Co-op, I assume you are a member so you should have some say in how it operates. The manager works for you the owner. If you really want to push it, you could ask him for a policy to the effect that your store does not accept marked money. There is probably a Board of Directors to whom he answers. You could also approach them if you really want to make an issue of it.
I'd like to thank everyone who gave me advice & comments about the Co-op manager. I went in today, armed with all your posts & the paragraph about stamping bills & I spoke to the guy. (Like a few of you, I like to rock the boat!) I explained that what I was doing was a harmless hobby, & hundreds of people were doing it. He reluctently agreed to let me continue using the bills I have stamped, but told me he would be informing the new manager, who is due any week now. I told him I would be ready with all the same info for the new guy. He just shook his head & rolled his eyes. I think the biggest problem is… even though I've lived here for seven years, I'm still considered as "the weird newbie outsider from Regina." Apparently those labels stick with you for quite awhile around here.
On a happier note, the staff at Wojo's gas bar have agreed to trade bills with me whenever I come in. Yay! This is a good thing, as it's right on the Yellowhead highway, so hopefully my money will travel east & west from now on!! Again, thanks everyone for your input, & wow! some people are really knowledgeable about this area! Scary! :^)
I'm glad that you informed the uninformed manager and came to an agreement. Be ready to do the same thing with the next one. I have been told by many people that I need to get a life and asked why anyone would want to do this, my answer to them is that this is my release at the end of the day when I don't have to think about anything else.
I have virtually no life, as all my kids are gone, I had to medically retire, & have very few hobbies left that I can do, so this is my newest, favourite hobby & everyone in this town can just kiss my grits! If no one else understand, well, tough noogies to them. Hmph.
Yes, Suzuki, I will certainly be informing the new manager, & hopefully he'll be a bit more understanding.
tell them this replaces your expensive coke, speed or whatever addiction and you no longer have to do crime to support your habit.
Way to go twinsmum!!!! more power to ya!!
sounds like you got plenty of grit and determination to be a great tracker!!
Keep on tracking!!
ROFL! Thanks, antics… I needed that! Lol.
Yea, good that everything worked out for you and you are smiling again :)
