The good news is that this site isn't going anywhere… the bad news is that it's gonna be down again this coming weekend while we move offices. The worse news is that the IP that the server will reside at is only temporary (for about two weeks) while Telus sets up our new fibre connection, which ultimately means that there is the potential for another couple of days of down time in two or three weeks time. However, as per normal if your ISP updates their DNS cache on a semi-regular basis, you shouldn't have a problem. If you do have troubles, let me know and I will email you some suggestions as to how you might get back using the site quicker.
Sorry gang, but the company is moving offices so that means the server has to move too.

Stand strong, we can do this
Good news: Will the fibre connection improve speeds?
Bad news: Better put a splash on the home page to that effect for those who (for what ever crazy reason) do not read the forums.
And where you movin' to???
I can feel the withdrawl starting already! Whoa! Sorry it was just a flashback. So where is the support group meeting on Sunday?
I guess we will all have to get our fixes as much as possible before the weekend…
LIAR!!
You're not moving offices, you're just taking the site down just so we can't have any fun Sunday evening.
Ha ha, you have to get up pretty early to get one by ole CJ ;-)
Hey, I found this site that has a forum we can use.. Lol. Now we can have fun posting message. Also has record pages and such. got made tonight..
LOL
Good one Mmm! Just what we need, an addiction site for our addiction!
Nice work MmmBeer, it might come in handy this weekend.
Does this mean all of our scores will go down a bit? Since we aren't entering bills or comments?
yea but they will be up again when we enter our next bill
Ya, hopefully the connection will be faster. The speed of the site though, is directly related to so many factors, it's actually not directed related at all… :) What I mean is that aside from the speed of the server machine and complexity of the code being run, there is the speed of the connection between each "hop" on the way to the site as well as the number of hops. To check that stuff use the "traceroute" command on Linux/Unix or "tracert" on a Windows machine.
Back to the speed of the code on the site… If certain pages seem to go slow consistantly, please email me the details and I will look at it. Certain pages will sometimes be slow by design however; for example the "Stats" main page will be slow about once an hour as it re-computes all the stats. I will be looking at improving the code for the slower pages over the next couple of versions to minimize computing time.

It's unbelievable, the things you do with this site dr. Many thanks. I've certainly enjoyed it. Now it's time to brace for the withdrawals!
Heh, you guys need to act and think positively. With all this negativity it's no wonder the site is "down" for so long. Or perhaps it's just me keeping it "down" so as to give you all a self-fullfilling prophecy?

DR…..I know you would not do that to your loyal, respectful, needy, humble, members as we are so greatfull for all the effort you put into the site. I know you would not needlessly make us suffer withdrawal pains….
As to my temporary site. Ill try to find a new Message Board as that one I have has alot of popups. I bet when the site is down, I'll have about 8 people trying to enter my bills.
All hail the new hit-god! What a great idea.
Anyway, I think I like the last message board better because it doesn't require a signup. Dr, or anyone else, do you know any free message board sites that I can put on my site?
And a question to some (or all)
would you rather deal with pop-ups, or rather sign up with no popups?
I dunno. Personally I wouldn't bother too much. If all goes well, there will be minimal downtime, somewhere in the neighbourhood of an hour or so on Saturday around 9am MT. Anyone who thinks they will miss the site during that time should simply get ICQ, MSN Messenger or Jabber… then you can talk to me or a handful of others who have an instant messenger program on their computer.

So the site should be back up by later Sunday for sure?
Hmm….
Hopefully it will. I can feel the withdrawallllsssssss stting in aaallllllrrrrrredy. Vision blurryyy, ttttyppingg getttinngng slopppppi! LOL
Anyways THANKYOU Dr for all you've done for the site, I do love winding down with this site after putting up with drunks and weird people for 13 hours.
Well, the site will be up an running by Saturday morning about 1 hour after I move it, just like last time. The reason you may not be able to get to it is because your ISP has cached the IP address and still has the old IP. As I said, in that case let me know and I'll try and help you work around the situation.

I didn't even notice! Great job DR, I've seen bad things happen during moves like this, and this seemed painless! Thanks!
