BANKCOLLECTOR
most use wrong ink to stay on bills.
most use wrong ink to stay on bills.
Inkjet yes… but what about laser…
probably also not going to work.
I use inkjet ink in my stamper now & i highly doubt it would work.. it is simular to the regular ink.
okay now that we have solved the ink problem (i went an bought two ink pads (red & black) as per simpsons suggestion using the two 40% coupons),
i now have another test i want to try and that is to emboss notes. i have undertaken the cost of having an old corporate seal converted to a round cmt stamp (it will be ready early next week). my questions to the general tracking members is simple … do you think the embossing of the new $5.00 bill will cause grief to the money tracking hobby ? will embrossed bills be treated the same as stamped bills or will they attract the eyes of the banks and the government and be a cause of concern? your views would be most welcome.
is the embossing simular to what they do for the blind??
.. it disappears over time..
If so I doubt the bank would mind.
I have improved the ability of regular ink adhesion by 'wiping' the bill where I am stamping it with either 600 or 220 grit sandpaper. It seems to improve the ink's adhesion. 600 seems to be too fine, and 220 was a little too agressive, so I am going to try 320 if I can find some over the weekend. I am also going to try an impact printer (dot matrix) with a ribbon. I will report when I have some results.
I WILL HAVE A FEW SAMPLES OUT WITH THE NOTE EMBOSSED NEXT WEEK WHEN THE STAMP IS BACK FROM THE MAKER. I WILL SEND DR. ONE SAMPLE AND SHOW THE OTHER ONE TO MEMBERS IN SASKATOON AT A COFFEE MEETING LOCATION AND TIME T.B.A. . AFTER THE SAMPLES HAVE BEEN INSPECTED I WILL THEN PROCEED TO USE THE EMBOSSER OR SHELF IT LIKE I DID YOU ARE A WINNER STAMP. MORE DETAILS TO FOLLOW NEXT WEEK.
I've decided that the 220 sandpaper works the best. It only takes a couple of 'wipes' to make the stamp stick. If I can find a 220 grit sponge, it would be perfect.
Still no results to report on dot matrix or laser printer.
I have found P100 sandpaper works for me. I have only had 2 bills to try it on though!
Just a silly question about using sandpaper on money.
Wouldn't using sandpaper on a bill to take the protective layer off constitute mutilation??
First off you guys are getting crazy about this and if someone thinks I am going to wipe sandpaper on 300 bills a day (when the new fives are all we get) they have gone off the deep end. Stazon ink comes in ink pads as Simpson pointed out and if you clip the coupon from the weekly Micheals flyer you can get one for under $10.00 and a new stamp for about $15.00. To me that sounds like a much easier way to mark these new bills. Now I appreciate Idjit's (my hit dad) work on this problem, however we must add the practical factor into this problem and sanding large numbers of bills tends to shy away from the practical side of this problem.
So what's not practical? I've got a belt sander mounted to my desk with a device to feed bills through and then a vacuum to remove the dust. Then there's the rubber pads that push the bill against the sander just so the only spots that get sanded are the places where I stamp them. Then there's the fire extinguisher just in case the bill gets too hot. There's a big net to catch the bills as they shoot off the end of the sander and two kids to sort them out so they all face the same way. Then another kids brings them back to the desk so I can stamp them, and my wife inspects them to make sure the stamp is giving good coverage. If not, the bill gets returned to the sander to shave a little more off. Then a big magnifying glass to make sure the bills that didn't make the grade are in perfect registration so the stamps are not crooked.
I have to hide the varnich residue in case the B of C gestapo go through my garbage to see if I'm removing their precious finish.
After this, the new series bills are interleafed with the old ones so they get an even distribution when I spend them. Of course, we have to smuggle them out of the house at 3:00 am in case someone is watching. We also had to soundproof the house so no one would figure out what were doing with the belt sander running all the time, and the windows were covered to avert prying eyes.
Simple
Don't forget turn off any lights and other electrical appliances so your power usage doesn't go too high. They are always watching us!!!! oops maybe this post was meant for the controversial forum!
not that contoversial!!
How do you think they catch alot of drug dealers??
Simple???..Of course.. What else could a person ask for. Here's how to mark these new notes with your regular stamp…What more do you want!
Sounds like an ABC thing to me!
Great story Idjit – made me laugh.
