i just received four new stacks of fives with the silver ban that are not coated so my regular stamp works on them … did they do away with the coating as a bad idea.
anyone have any details?

I've been wondering myself. The last bunch of new fives that I've received are the same texture as the older fives. No coating but they do have the silver.

That would be nice if the coating was gone. I just bought a new StazOn ink pad, and some of the new fives I smeared badly (you could just feel the stamp slide across the surface…..ack!!!)

I know what you talking about Gene. I hate when that happens. It only seems to happen on the front though.

I'm not sure what is going on. I just received a new five today, and have to have the prefix added to the site. Anyways it's got the coating on it.

Some due and so do not have coating … I found when the stazon ink pad is used for a while the amount of ink going onto the stamp is less and the smear factor goes way down I have also wasted many a bill with a big smear mark across it and if the paper was not so costly would toss it. If my office manager did such sloppy work on my envelopes I would toss them and make her redo them. However at $5.00 per mistake I just spend them in fast paced places so I am not asked about the mess.

Yeah, the amount of ink used will go down as the pad is used more and more. And LC is right too, the smearing only happens on the front of the 5s.

I think it is a wax based coating. I erased a couple to see if it helped and it did.
