it also says hes only logged on on the 9th, and all his bills are marked for the 5th

It's a bug but it's fixed in the latest dev version. You will see version 2.1.1 somewhere around the December 20th.

No, it's a bug not related to the date. He could have entered any dates and it still would have worked. And it only works when you first register.
