Hey dr, or anyone else..
I am looking for a computer to buy myself. I need it in the 1000-1500 dollar range (all I got). I've looked at techtronic, and it seems the way to go. 17'' LCD monitor, 1.7GHz, 256 DDR ram, 30 GB hard drive, good video card, etc. Also come with Windows XP. Cheapest I seen so far, this one is 1158.00 dollars.
I want one of those Imacs that are just the widescreen LCD monitor, no CPU or anything, but 3000 dollar, too much. Anyone want to send me one for free? LOl
- Good thing you are old enough to drive the Mercedes when you win it ;-)
- Are you really going to spend the same amount on a monitor as the rest of your system?
- If you will be playing any first person games, the refresh rate just isn't there. I'd love an LCD monitor but just watching it flash on a laptop scrolling down a document is enough to make me ill.
Just my two cents. Good Luck. We've delt with Techronics here in S'toon (lots) and are quite satisfied with them.
There has been quite a lively debate on <a href = http://www.csss.usask.ca/2002/html/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=116&sid=306fc08e806b961184551b4f04f1cda1> techtronics </a> on the Computer Science Students Society web page at the U of S
If you don't mind doing the work youself you might try this place I found called Cutting Edge Computers in London. They have a price list you can download at www.cedgec.com and I think you can order the parts through the web site to.
I saw one in a flyer in burlington
2.0 gh
256 DDR ram
40 gig harddrive
xp
vid card
all the other bellls and whistles
Did it come with monitor? Alot of times they show the monitor, but you dont actually get it. I hate it also when they have it posted as, say, $800, but it's really 1400, but 800 after mail in rebates, instant rebates, drives to the US, months waiting for money. Pfffft :P too much a hastle.
I may go talk to my old social teacher, he is a Mac official or something, he gets Macs for 20-40% off retail. Also gets models 5-6 months ahead of their actual release date.

The retail markup is really small on Macs. About 10%. But the educational discount is huge. If you can finangle one that way, you could be looking at 1/3 off retail.
