I couldn't log on to the site!
For twenty minutes I tried with no success.
I was able to read the forum messages (what's up with that?) but not post.
Argghh!
Getting very frustrated indeed, 21 tried one more time before emailing dr…
and realized her caps lock was on. oopsy!

BDKINGSTON

I'm haapy to hear that your frustration was only short lived.. It would have been awfull to see you go into full withdrawal..

JaketheDrifter

Oooh, this is so tempting, 21!! But, it is getting close to christmas, or the non-denominational festive holiday (or whatever the heck they call it these days!), so I will be nice and keep my comments to myself!!

It IS Christmas, when Christians celebrate the birth of the Son of God. This year Hannukah falls in the same time period, so Happy Hannukah to those of the Jewish Faith.

There's getting to be altogether too much 'political correctness'. People are denying themselves their own heritage now! If you don't know (and cherish!) where you came from, how do you know where you are going?

kaiser

I have a good point to argue about Christmas. Why can't we call it Christmas? Because that would be unfair to the Jews, Muslims, and other peoples. But, do you see Hannukah and Ramadan having there name changed? The dradel is still a dradel, etc. Why should we have to change our name, when every other holiday isn't?

21MillionDollarBaby

Because the truth scares people.
And it threatens their already comfortable pagan lives and how did my CAPS LOCK turn into THIS discussion? lol!
Have a Christ-filled Christmas everybody!
If ALL the world denies it, a truth is still true.
If all the world believes it, a false is still false.

MmmBeer

I dont like it in the schools when they call it, winter holidays, or mid-term break, or whatever. So scared to call It christmas.

pappahunt

I think as happens with any conversation it starts to wander 21. But I think we should go back to calling the kettle black (if it is, mine's blue). You can call me any thing but late for dinner. Oppsy ! My keyboards on a tray so sometimes I have to pull it out to see what happened.

kaiser

My principal is a Welsh guy who is really strict. So strict that we can't stay on the top floor of the school. But, yesterday, for the last 30 minutes, we were sining Christmas Carols. Not holiday or festive stuff. CHRISTMAS.

crazz

Everyone believes is something, regardless of your faith we all have a God. Merry Christmas to everyone, whatever your faith, I wish your version (mine being Christ birthday) and to all a fantastic 2003.

Peace, love, health and happiness to all!!!

It seems people aren't happy unless they're making a big deal about something….and spoiling it for everyone else. I think everyone should be allowed to celebrate and call their holiday what they want according to their faith and beliefs. Nobody should have to give christmas a 'generic' name because other people supposedly get offended because they celebrate a different holiday. To each his own, and people should be mature enough to respect that.

When I made the comment about the "non-denominational festive holiday" I was being sarcastic out of frustration over what I feel is the least "christmassy" christmas ever. The focus is on the whole gift thing (even worse than ever, I feel), people seem afraid to say "merry christmas" to one another (really experienced that yesterday while doing christmas shopping, grocery shopping, and doing my banking), and people seem to avoid the term "christmas" like the plague (the letter my boyfriend received from work accompanying his christmas bonus called it everything but).

I think it's totally ridiculous and I can't see there being a valid point to all of this nonsense. Really, when there's so much crap going on in the world right now, why add to it with more "PC" BS??

Anyway, that's my rant for today….

ANGLOFROG

Why not be totally anti-Christmas and not spend ANY money on this holiday season.

Merry Christmas all Anglo-Christians!

Pooga

Merry Christmas all Anglo-Christians!

Smart! Since we Oriental Christians don't celebrate till the 7 of January. (Oriental in this case meaning 'eastern', not race or culture)

21MillionDollarBaby

We give our gifts on New Years Eve.
And get to take advantage of the Boxing Day Sales!
Why spend MORE money for the same gift before Christmas…?
And we spend a quiet Christ-filled Christmas at home.
Christ was born in April anyway so I don't get all bent out of shape over it.
Christmas came to be celebrated at the same time as pagan winter holiday for convenience.

Anybody read the results of a recent poll? It shows that Canadians are beginning to become more intolerant of immigrants. (Just ask David Ahenakew!)

But the bottom line is that at some point in time, EVERYONE's background includes immigration, and that includes the so-called 'first nations'. (Interesting how they skip over that part, or recent archeological findings that there were caucasians in America before them)

Previously, non-violent intolerance (such as not allowing Ukrainian schoolchildren to speak Ukrainian, even during recess, in the 1930-1950's) actually increased the rate of assimilation and acceptance. Unfortuneately, the VISIBLE differences just exeberate the the cultural unfamiliarity (police with turbans, kids with 'religious' knives, etc.). While on the other hand, a Slavic accent is unremarkable. People celebrate 'Ukrainian Christmas', garlic sausage is now acceptable, we've hade Ukr. premiers, a Governor-General, and some of the best hockey players. A name ending in 'ski' or 'chuk' doesn't automatically disqualify one from a job nowadays. Taken together, quite a change in 50 years!

Everyone believes is something, regardless of your faith we all have a God.

I think that the aetheists and agnostics would disagree with you there!

(Everyone believes in something, regardless of your faith we all have a God)
I guess I should have said it differently, I didn't mean to offend anyone. Just that everyone believes in something, and we should all appreciate that.
I still believe that Xmas is a time of peace, and wish everyone on this site peace and love during this season. Regardless of what you believe or don't I still wish you all the best in 2003, may the hit gods shine on us all!!
