It's looking good. I just hope they don't get overconfident with Kevin Glenn not playing.

BANKCOLLECTOR

in all my years in saskatchewan i never gave the riders much chance to win a grey cup but things are looking good.
the only thing better would be if it was held in regina. i attended the last grey cup in regina that was held on the 19 of november. it was super cold and windy and not a fun time at all in the stands…the after game party was a blast held in the vets club. but i must concur go riders go.

T'WAS THE NIGHT BEFORE GREY CUP

Twas the night before Grey Cup, and all through the Dome,

Not a creature was stirring, but the gophers back home.

The players were nestled and snug in their beds,

While visions of Grey Cup Rings danced in their heads.

When out on the field, there arose such a clatter,

Kent sprang from his bed to see what was the matter,

Away to his window, he flew like a flash,

Threw aside the Green Curtains, and Silky White Sash.

And what did he see with his wondering eye?

But a sea of Green Revelers and a furry brown guy.

“That looks like Dominguez, and Flick and Fantuz!”

“Its way after curfew! Do they want us to lose??”

So, out of his room and down to the field,

Coach Austin stormed out with a fury to wield.

As he went through the tunnel, the ground shook with a beat,

From the dancing and prancing of ten thousand feet.

“Hey Coach,” cried a voice, “Whatcha doing down here?”

It was Szarka and Schultz, and they were handing out beer!

Chucky and Chick were grilling up Dogs,

With Burgers being served by O’Day and the Hogs.

Crandall cooked Hot Wings, Joseph grilled steak,

While Cates, Holmes, and Hughes helped Makowsky serve cake.

“This is nuts!” Austin shouted, “It’s one-thirty AM!”

“I expected some revelry, but this is mayhem!”

Eric Tillman tapped Austin, “ You’re not Eagle Keys -”

“But I’m not Berry, or Gotta, or Gregory – so PLEASE!”

“You’re all waddling around here like Wascana geese!”

“And in need of a dance coach like Donald Narcisse.”

“Now, you’ve all had your fun, so back to your rooms.”

But then Austin’s nose picked up the barbecue fumes.

Then Green Is The Color rang out through the air,

As Congi and Boreham played Banjos with flair.

On Davis, on Johnson, on Coach Ritchie Hall,

Even old Alex Smith flashed a smile after all,

On Lloyd, on McCullough, on Hunt and on Perry,

On Kornegay, Frazier, and yes, even Kerry.

The skydome then filled with a soft greenish glow,

And the whole Rider Nation set poised for a show.

An S and a wheat sheaf then formed in the air,

And a smile took the place of Coach Kent Austin’s glare.

Then everyone there, the players, the fans,

They formed a big circle by all holding hands,

Then right in the centre appeared the Grey Cup,

Which Fairholm and Ridgeway and Elgaard picked up.

They handed it over to Ritchie and Kent,

Who called Kerry and Eddie, and off the Cup went.

It was passed round the field, past heroes to present,

While Gainer dug holes for the Blue Bomber Pheasants.

That music was heard coast to coast people say

And they say Rider Pride grew three sizes that day.

Everyone left there dreaming of Blue Bomber doom.

And they sent all the Banjos to Troy Westwood’s Room.

Don’t gloat after Grey Cup win — yeah, right!

So long has it been since a Saskatchewan team last won the Grey Cup that we might have forgotten how to behave. A certain etiquette is required of us now. As supporters of the champion Riders, we must conduct ourselves with class and dignity. A higher standard of behaviour is expected.

A true champion knows when to show some restraint. That’s why, if you meet someone from Winnipeg, you should wait until you’ve been formally introduced before mentioning how the Riders kicked their blue and gold asses all over the field.

The important thing is not to gloat. Gloating is unbecoming and unnecessary. Blue Bomber fans feel bad enough as it is. They don’t need to be reminded who won. Everyone who cares about Canadian football already knows that the Riders are the Grey Cup champions, so there’s no need to mention it every 15 seconds. Every 30 seconds is plenty.

It’s a simple matter of consideration for losers. I mean for others.

Suppose, for example, you’re at an important business meeting with the regional manager in from Winnipeg. Suppose he’s a lifetime Blue Bomber fan and his heart is broken because he knows Milt Stegall will never win the big one now, and all he can see when he closes his eyes is poor Kevin Glenn on the sideline with his arm in his sling. But suppose he’s somehow been able to put aside the bowel-twisting defeat and concentrate on business.

By all means, let him. If it makes him feel better to forget about his team’s excruciating defeat and talk instead about quarterly widget projections, he should be allowed to do so. There’s no need to remind him that the Riders’ James Johnson had almost as many interceptions Sunday as Stegall had catches. It’s enough to come to the meeting in green and white face paint.

Let’s remember that the Riders won on Sunday by being professional. They controlled their emotions. They didn’t despair when they struggled and they didn’t boast when they made big plays. We should do likewise by not letting Grey Cup celebrations interfere with our jobs. A Grey Cup hangover is no excuse for missing work, after next week.

As the Riders held on Sunday for the win, let us hold on to our self-control. This means keeping the game in perspective. Let’s try to not act like the Riders haven’t won the Grey Cup twice before in 97 years.

Our self-control is not all that’s being tested. Relationships, too, can come under stress when our team wins the Grey Cup. Many of us have relatives in Winnipeg. How we treat them in these coming weeks and months will influence family relations for generations to come. My Uncle Duncan, for instance, hasn’t spoken to his cousin in Toronto since 1997 when the Argos beat the Riders in the Grey Cup final. Losing was painful enough, but the cousin rubbed salt in the wound by signing up Uncle Duncan with the Doug Flutie fan club. He still gets the newsletters 10 years later.

If you have family in Winnipeg and you haven’t been in touch in years, now might not be the best time to call. If, however, you cannot resist a sudden yearning to commiserate with these distant loved ones in their time of sorrow, be sure to ask how everyone is before reminding them that the Riders held their Charles Roberts to a measly 47 yards on 13 futile carries and that, by the end of the game, when Winnipeg had the ball, Rider fans were hollering, “Give it to Roberts! Give it to Roberts!”

Don’t forget to ask, too, about the health of the Blue Bomber’s volatile coach. He’s recovering from a frightening brush with exploding head disease (EHD). The Bombers did well to make the game as close as they did with a coach on the sidelines whose head was in imminent danger of exploding. It had to have been a distraction, especially for their rookie quarterback in his first CFL start.

For us in Saskatchewan, the danger is that our heads will get too big. At this time of our team’s ascendancy, let us remember golden rule of football. Let us treat Winnipeg fans as we would have them treat us if it was our team that totally sucked.

RIDERS! WOOOOO!

Two guys from Saskatchewan die and wake up in hell.

The next day the devil stops in to check on them and sees them dressed in parkas, mittens and toques warming themselves around the fire.

The devil asks them, "What are you doing? Isn't it hot enough for you?"

The two guys reply, "Well, you know, we're from Canada, the land of snow and ice and cold. We're just happy for a chance to warm up a little bit, eh?"

The devil decides that these two aren't miserable enough and turns up the heat.

The next morning he stops in again and there they are, still dressed in parkas, toques and mittens.

The devil asks them again, "It's awfully hot down here, can't you guys feel it?"

Again the two guys reply, "Well, like we told ya yesterday, we're from Canada, the land of snow and ice and cold. We're just happy for a chance to warm up a little bit, eh?

This gets the devil a little steamed up and he decides to fix these two guys. He cranks the heat up as high as it will go.

The people are wailing and screaming everywhere. He stops by the room with the two guys from Canada and finds them in light jackets and bucket hats, grilling bacon and drinking beer.

The devil is astonished, "Everyone down here is in abject misery, and you two seem to be enjoying yourselves."

The two Canadians reply, "Well, ya know, we don't get too much warm weather up there in Saskatoon so we've just got to have a cook-out when the weather's this nice."

The devil is absolutely furious, he can hardly see straight. Finally he comes up with the answer. The two guys love the heat because they have been cold all their lives. So the devil decides to turn all the heat off in hell.

The next morning, the temperature is below zero, icicles are hanging everywhere; people are shivering so bad that they are unable to do anything but wail, moan, and gnash their teeth. The devil smiles and heads for the room with the two canadians. He gets there and finds them back in their parkas, toques, and mittens. NOW they are jumping up and down, cheering, yelling and screaming like mad men!!!

The devil is dumbfounded, "I don't understand, when I turn up the heat you're happy. Now it's freezing cold and you're still happy. What is up with you two???"

The guys from Saskatchewan look at the devil in surprise,
"Well, don't you know, eh?. If hell freezes over, it must mean the Roughriders have won the Grey Cup."
