SPAM from CDN-money.com user... I'm unimpressed.

So today I got my first cdn-money bill. Its ironic becuse I was actually distributing whereswilly.com bills and this was one I got for change. That was cool in a way, but when I got home I had received an email from "935k at sk dot sypatico dot ca", which amounts to SPAM. I don't need an add for the site, I should be able to discover it on my own and perhaps receive a bill that I can give a 'hit' to now and then without getting ads in my inbox. Thus, the email, text of which I posted below, was rude. If its not condoned by the site, I suggest or request that the manager of the site have a word with the person. Its just not kosher to send out spam for a game or anything else. That should be self-explainatory. I'll give the bill its hit, and I'll enter any others that come my way, just please don't send me or any other whereswilly users spam. Thanks.

I did not write the above message, but I do consider harvesting email addresses from the site and spamming my users with defamatory emails about Where's Willy? beyond reproach. I also do not appreciate the implication that Where's Willy? does not have "easy to maneuver screens", instant updates (for what?), plenty of stats (more then this site), and most of all, the entirely appalling implication that I sell users' email addresses - which I have not and will not ever do. What you have done is portray cdn-money.com as a site the resorts to the lowest and most hated form of self-promotion - SPAM - certainly not something I want associated with my site.

I do find it a bit wrong about spaming, But just take it this way, you get spam from other sites every day and you don`t wine about it. Just because it a compitition site, you all cry about it. whereswillydotcom you gave me the hit, thank you, But i enter bills at whereswilly occasionally, but only stamp the one site down. Just delaete the email message and get on with your lives, or grab a tissue, and cry a river.

I did not all intend to imply that WW sells e-mail addresses - just that this site doesn't. My bottom line intent was to find out if you are aware that this site existed. We have cetainly been aware of yours…if you check out our discussion history you will see that. I do think that this site is much easier to manouever about in, but I give kudos to yours for having that table that allows users to figure out how your point system works. — As a gov't recruiter, I do try to enlighten people on the benefits of joining my organization. As for spamming, the definition of that has to be taken with a grain of salt. Perhaps I should have just sent greetings and hello, but I think that would still have disturbed you enough to call it spamming, because you have learned you aren't the only kid on the block. (By the way, there are conotations to your site name that many Canadians find offensive. A better name may have been 'Where's John, eh?', refering to our first Prime Minister, as George refers to your first Pres). I can see why one of your discussion groups calls themselvers 'whiners'.

Yes, I am unimpressed too. I don't understand where you come off calling an open invitation 'spam'.

I suppose that you return wedding invitations too because you didn't request them! And let's not even mention advertising flyers. I'd love to hear how you handle telemarketers!

I find the name 'whereswilly' degrading to Canadians. I suggest that the Where's George site change its own name to 'Where's Dickie' or 'Where's Benny'. The Americans who operate the site would never think to offend their own. Just another case of yankees running roughshod over Canadians. Considering Bush has called Britian 'our closest ally' and Japan the biggest trading partner!

Post your email address in a public forum and be prepared for the consequences, good and bad.

In a perfect world, we meld the 2 databases and have one site. But it's not a perfect world.

Live and let live.

Let's get on with real life.

Just another case of yankees running roughshod over Canadians.

I just want to address this one comment. Almost from day one of Where's George?, I had received many, many requests from Canadians to create a sister site for Canadian currency. I found myself with some spare time at the beginning of this year, and decided to do it. If you notice, I registered the domain about a year before that. So, please don't accuse me of running roughshod over Canadians… Where's Willy? exists ONLY BECAUSE YOU ASKED me to do it. And as for the name of the site, the somewhat offending nature of the name occured to me, but (a) it kept with the same naming convention of Where's George? (b) "Where's Wilfrid?" was too clunky and did not sound like a fun site, and (c) I assumed that Canadians would be mature about it, and not really care. Guess I was wrong on the last point.

Sure wasn't me.

You obviously did NOT keep the same naming convention. I wonder what would happen if a complaint was made to the Federal Heritage minister?
