When was the last time BC had a Premier who did not have some sort of scandal? And once again it has happened. Has everyone seen this news story? The first Premier in the HISTORY of CANADA to ever spend time in jail. So anyone have an option on this story, resign or not-resign?
Gordon in Jail
I vote resign, simply since he called for government members to resign when he was in opposition, and for less serious reasons at that. Anyway, you have to practice what you preach. If he does not resign, then serious time and effort on his part should be put in to demonstrating that what he did was wrong and that no one should drive drunk.
Yeah, he was always one to call for resignations, and for this reason maybe he should. But for simply being the Premier, I am not one of those that beleives that there should be a different moral standard simply because of the job one holds. If every person who was caught drunk driving lots his/her job, we would lose a tremendous amount of skilled workers.
There is a certain amount of 'political correctness' nowadays too that I am not very comfortable with. In the old days, we used to joke around about how drunk we were at parties, and we all drove home. Now with more education, we know better, but it seems a little hypocritical to me to sit back and call for someone to hang for something I could have done once myself. I also suspect there is a fair amount of political opportunism going on here, too. It's pretty easy to kick a guy when he's down. I prefer to exercise a little more compassion- particularly when a guy 'fesses up right away without playing stupid like most people do today. If our federal government and their gun registry could be half as honest…
I'm with T-rev. If he can't make wise decisions in his personal life, why do you think I'd trust him to make wise political decisions? LOSER
Still, if you needed perfection, you'd have to hire God, and I think He's already employed…
Is this a question of moral though? The Premier broke the law. This is not like Mr. Kleine and his drinking problem.
However, to clear up the point, I'm not 100% for his resignation, but somehow he'll have to regain his standing in the minds of the residents of BC, and if he cannot do this then certainly resign. It would be interesting to see if the party would do better or worse without him.
Anywho, that is all I'll say. I was really just trying to get talk going on this board. The only discussion seemed to be about how we have no discussion
Just moral in this sense: why would we ask this guy to accept more punishment than the next guy? He's going to suffer the same consequences as Joe Blow in the course of time, and after he's been disqualified from driving, paid a fine, and whatever else, we're insisting he lose his job too.
If everyone lost their job when they got caught DWI, fine, but to single out this guy just because of the job he holds-I'm not so sure. Maybe if, before people accept their jobs, we tell them "O.K., with this job, if you get caught doing this or that, we're going to go further than the criminal code, and punish you by taking your job away." If a guy knew this beforehand, and still wanted the job, fine. I just don't think we should make up the rules after the fact.
Sure, he's the Premier, and he should be an example, but so should every teacher, minister, elected official, government employee, and every adult.
Don't mean to ramble on here, but when someone gives me an opportunity to give my 2 cents, I usually give a buck and a half…
Look what happened to David Ahenakew and so far he han't even brole the law yet. It is because of the office he holds.
Everything that has happenned to David Ahenekew so far has been voluntary. No charges have been laid. No one forced him to do anything- it's all in his 'apology speech'.
Campbell should resign. And not just from his Hawaiian "fun." Look at the Fast Cats. Auction, no minimum bid. We, the taxpayers, paid $100 million for each, and now they won't sell for more than $20 million. And we're not getting the money. The PST was raised by a guy who prmised tax cuts. I don't think +0.5% is going down, is it? And also, hes just a loser. In fact, all Premiers of BC are losers, the wholed lot.
