What about ELG?

Can you send a scanned image or photo, clearly showing the note's serial number? If so please send it to admin@cdn-money.com and it will be added as soon as an assistant can look at it.

rudyk

As per an email request, that included a scanned image of the note with serial number, prefix ELG, for $20 banknotes, Canadian Journeys series, has been added to the database.

Thank you for your notification, with evidence, of this new prefix and happy tracking!

hey there, gouche92… you know that you and i are a well-oiled machine here! always keeping all (>99%) of the people happy! :)

BANKCOLLECTOR

Now that you have found a method to work out the problem of your old confirmation method maybe the other 1% won't have to put up with long unwarranted delays. Funny it took you well oiled machines so long to come up with such a simple solution. Very happy you finally figured it out.

gouche92

It is NOT as simple as it looks but I am not going to get into a long explanation. Suffice to say we have found a solution that works.

BANKCOLLECTOR

Yes you have and it seems a simple one at that … now maybe explain to the none computer experts how we scan a bill to the site. These instructions would be helpful.

rudyk

well, BC… the old way works just fine, too. just ask and it happens… you know, just like the countless times that new prefixes have been added. indeed, that is likely still the preferred way – and scanning banknotes will be pressed into service when a new series is introduced in Saskatchewan, first. just so you know – that doesn't happen too often, but it did with ELG and ELH (and likely ARJ).

so – just to be perfectly clear here. if you encounter a prefix that you believe needs to be entered into the database, the first and best way of doing that is to post the request here. that works for the vast majority of cases. we will get back to you if more information is needed.

as for using your scanner, BC, i earnestly suggest that you just RTFM.

maybe explain to the none(sic) computer experts how we scan a bill to the site

If you don't know how to operate a scanner, or take a digital picture, I have to agree… RTFM. Or take a class. Or hire a tutor.

I mean, we ARE a money tracking site. Sure we provide ancillary support on using the site/internet in general, but hands-on training on how to use your peripherals is beyond the scope of this community.

Idjit

Sorry… what does RTFM mean? I was wondering how to add a scan to the site after I have it saved to my computer. Is there a FAQ I don't know about? I don't mean to be dumb, but I've never done this here. I must be missing something…

rudyk

from the WIKI article, RTFM "in a more polite conversation can mean "Read The Friendly Manual" or "Read The Freaking Manual" or "Read The Famous Manual"" and it was only in this context that i have ever expressed it!

there's no real easy way to add a scan to the site… the best way that i can think of is to put it on a picture hosting site and then link it, like i linked the above wiki.

Idjit

Thanks! I've seen pictures on the site, but I've never had occasion to add one myself. I'm pretty sure I can figure it out now if I use the link button right?
As far as RTFM is concerned, well, my kids send me text messages with these shortcuts in them and until now I've just guessed at their meaning and assumed it was something nice. Maybe it's time for me to reveiw some of those text messages and see what they were really saying to me. Dang, it's tough to keep up when you're old. Sneaky little brats might have been making disparaging remarks at me all this time. Just wait till I get my hands on them and their phones. Wait! I.m paying for those phones, so I'm financing their mode of insult! Now I'm really depressed…

BANKCOLLECTOR spouted:
Well of course I meant scan a bill into the site where else would I want to scan it too? being smart asses does nothing to help the site.

I have been teaching computer basics for years. I find that with computer neophytes, everything has to be in black and white. You CANNOT scan a bill to the site. In fact, you cannot scan ANYTHING to ANY site, including eBay. You can only scan to memory, and save the file to storage, or you can scan to paper, otherwise known as photocopying. THEN you can take that file and upload, or post it, to a website. CMT is not set up to receive uploads. If your Internet provider is Sasktel, you have storage space on the web, I’m not sure about Shaw. You can upload the file to your personal web space, or to a server dedicated to storage. Then you can take the URL of that file and post it to the CMT site. This is what most people do to post pictures and data to their profiles.

As a tutor, I cannot assume anything. Calling us smartasses is not in your best interest. Duties are handled in a serious and timely manner when PROOF is delivered. You seem to want to rely on hearsay and circumstantial evidence. I am surprised that, as a business owner, you don’t appreciate the value of of concise contract language. You can argue ‘intent’ all you want, but what’s written in black and white and physical proof are all that count, whether it’s in front of a judge, or just our database administrators.

Thanks for your comments Pooga, I think that they are right on the mark (NO PUN INTENDED).

As for Shaw providing storage, if you have a Shaw account, you do get storage space but I can not remember how much.

kayak

if you have a cell phone capable of taking pictures & e-mail, you could try doing that.
also could use a digital camera & send the picture as an attachment.
just a couple more options

gouche92

It doesn't really matter how it is done as long as the PREFIX of the note is "clearly" visible. The entire back of the note would be the best.
