Cash is not used as much as it was 20 years ago. Until I joined this site, most of my buying was with interact cards.

Myself, I use cash or credit cards. Only use my debit card to pay bills through the ATM or to withdraw cash.

As to it being quiet, it probably has something to do with the start of a new school year. All those school-related expenses put a serious crimp in a lot of budgets.

thats for sure!! I cannot believe the ridiculous price of books. they come to about half the cost of tuition for some things. why cannot people rent them? or have them available online? $242 for a text book is ridiculous.

$242 for a text book is ridiculous.

I'm sure rudyk can comment on that. You know that those poor, underpaid professors have to write text books just to make ends meet! And since the textbooks are only good for 2 or 3 years, they have to slave away writing another book… all while having to actually teach!

rudyk

meh, antics… i get all MY textbooks free :)

but seriously…. there are many ways to avoid paying what university bookstores want to charge. there are quite a few places online that have them for cheaper. in many cases, there is little difference between an older edition and the newer one. and the older one is way cheaper.

i hate the bookstores with a passion and do all i can to make life difficult for them – like putting my desk copy of the textbook on reserve, using texts that have been in uses for many years and by usually not making the text mandatory. i usually have a good relationship with the textbook representatives…. i hope they never find out how little money they make off me!

Actually I found that getting used ones was cheaper than new ones from past experience. I am not sure, but the instructors usually promoted that…..

but you have to have a used one available. I looked and could not find ALL of them used. some I did, a couple I got free. And I got one offer that while it would have got my used books free, well lets say it was not really an option.

Onetobeseen

Yeah, I remember it being a real hassle. I still couldn't get all I wanted. Especially too when one considers if the textbook people update books too.

too bad I could not just learn from the videos. I have to read it to learn it. I can do without the classroom as long as I have a good text. The only time I go into the classroom is to spend 10 to 30 minutes writing exams. they allow like 3 hours but if you know what you should know before writing, you dont need that long. My marks are good. I dont watch much of the videos. maybe 1/8th of them. maybe.
