well if can sign up the site, and post a message pretty sure you can figure out how to add a note……
it ain't quantum physics
See where it says "add a note". Click there. It's easy.
Well as this comes up from time to time and it is very silly that it happens but some people who are new to the site can be confused easy. on the home page maybe a simple line that says : BILLS ON THIS SITE ARE CALLED NOTES. And beside the ENTER NOTE (bill) . I know that is may seem rather foolish but it may help the new guests to the site.
I guess in light of the fact in most areas of this site bills are called notes that maybe this line on the site should be changed to reflect the common terms of the site.
SUCCESS: Your bill has been saved to the database. You can view it or add the high/low info. [?]
I have to agree with Bankcollector on this too, it may be a little bit confusing at first. We have to look at it from a newbies perspective…..
Mind you too, they somehow managed to sign up, find the forums and know which part to put it in, but that would open up a new can of worms…….
Another suggestion is to move the ADD NOTE spot.
On my computer I have to scroll down to see the ADD NOTE. Maybe if it was moved to before where it says 'help page' people would see it. This probably has to do with my computers font size.
Bankcollector is right when I see note I think that you want me to put some message there, so I think by adding the word 'bill' may help.
We do get a lot of people who sign up just to enter one note It would be great to find out why they signed up just to enter the one bill. On the other hand we get a ton of people who never sign up and still manage to enter their note.
On my computer I have to scroll down to see the ADD NOTE
There is also an 'add note' at the top. No scrolling needed.
or perhaps trackers on the site could use a stamp that uses the Canadian AND site convention and put "TRACK THIS NOTE" … just a suggestion… :)
Okay you caught me I am the biggest offendor Rudyk half of my stamps say track this bill … my newest stamps do not say bill or note just track on line with the site info. Sorry but it was always a 1,2,5,10,20,50,100,or 1000 dollar bill in the general public I have never been asked for a $5 dollar note please.
How do I get a recall on over 100,000 marked bills?
I think it would be easier to add the extra line on the site then to change the way most Canadians think of what they call our money. Every week when I go to the bank the tellers ask me if I want small bills or large?
we've been having this same discussion in the "General Discussion" forum too, and we're getting nowhere. everyone disagrees about changing the word note to bill, so what about changing the word add to track?
Some are criticizing the newbies for being able to find the forums but not add notes, well forums are called the same thing on every website that has them. if you've ever been online you know what a forum is, not everyone can figure out how to "add note" when most of the stamps say "track bill". Let's help the newbies instead of getting mad at them and maybe more of them will come back. (more newbies means more hits for us all!)
trippy_trip is once again right on the money. congratulations … it seems a very simple solution is available and not being applied.

Yes there a many little things that could be changed this way or that way, all based on someone's perception of how it should be done.
What some users of this site fail to realize or have forgotten is that this is a "free" website provided to us by dr. It was created and is supported during his free time. As of late however his free time has become less and less. Currently he is the only one who can make code changes, The Site Assistants DO NOT have the ability to make code changes, only the ability to perform limited administrative functions. There are changes coming to certain portions of the site but even the Site Assistants do not know what they are.
As for all of the "simple" solutions that are available and not being applied, let's just be thankful that we even have this site to track notes.
Discussion and the flow of ideas is a good thing but bear in mind that very few ideas may ever be incorporated into the site.
Well said, as always, gouche92. I think a reflection on the goals and purpose of this site every now and then is a good thing. We have to remember what this site was, is and will continue to be – and you have outlined that very well. I might add, in clarification only, and to "cite from scripture", as it were, the following:
"With a slow, controlled growth we tend to get users who want to be here and who have a genuine interest in tracking money." (General Code of Conduct, 5.)
We aren't looking for exponential growth… or even MODERATE growth. We want to restrict the community to those who really want to be here. Please consider that part of that process may actually BE a system of obfuscation and jumping through hoops to get to where we, the money trackers, are. So sayeth The Creator. :)
And that being said… maybe a rapid growth is what you are after… as many have tried (and ultimately failed) to engender at this site. So be it. There's lots of places that encourage that. Here, the stated mandate is that of a fun community of money-trackers. YES, we are excited about our hobby and what it tells us – but uncontrolled growth is neither wanted nor is it sustainable. Please consider that perspective in this discussion. That is to say, no "solution" may be necessary.

When a complaint comes in about an issue most business oriented people work to find a solution as to provide a win win situation. Unlike government workers who simple close their office door (so to speak)on issues and bury them in red tape. It is a shame that simple solutions cannot be applied to simple problems by some people.
This is not a business.
The customer may always be right,
but that doesn't mean you have to listen to him.
We don't make the rules.
We don't write the code.

I understand where you are coming from on this. But I think you have missed the point of what I was trying to say. dr has far less time to spend making changes to the site than he ever had. He is in the process of trying to shift more responsibilities to the Site Assistants. What those are even we don't know and we have no idea when that may happen.
Ultimately, I am sure, the coding changes will remain under his control and rightly so. After all CMT is his brainchild.
Feel free to make all of the suggestions that you want, but always bear in mind that only a small amount, if any, may ever be incorporated into the site.
For the time being things will remain status quo and we will ALL have to deal with it as best as we can…..
I never said this is a business. I refered to personal mind set. We know who writes the code and we have always been asked for suggestions for new upgrades. When these upgrades take place and what is put into them remains DR.'s choice this has always been the way and so it should be. Some new members voiced some concerns and some of us gave what we feel are reasonable solutions. Take them for what they are suggestions. Thank us for our suggestions then do what ever you want with our suggestions.
BC opined:
Thank us for our suggestions then do what ever you want with our suggestions.
would it actually be necessary to thank you for them???… or is that ANOTHER suggestion?… :)
it's okay… your perspective on "guvvy workers" (and those you lump in with them) and their confounded attitudes has been reasonably clear. all responses have been from a thoughtful and patient perspective that – depending on your viewpoint – may or may not be warranted in this case. i think this discussion in now officially past its shelf life. so, if it will help bring you closure, i shall say… thank you for your suggestions – i am certain that they will be given their due consideration.
I for one, will not become confused if the 'Add Note' button were changed to 'add bill'. Are there any long-time users who would be confused by a change? Speak up if you will be confuused.
it is not a question of being confused. would you be confused if that guy with a band and a half on his sleeve decided he wanted to be called a "lootenant"? or would HE be the one who was confused? or maybe flat-out wrong! the centre of this argument is usage. if you want to adopt the usage of our neighbours to the south – so be it. this site proudly displays a maple leaf – is it too much to ask to adopt the Canadian convention of "banknote" or just "note"? Is it THAT out of line to point out to those unaware of that that that is the case? (wow… three consecutive "thats"! :) )
Is that that that proper grammar? (Hmmmm seem to have picked up a stutter). Sorry Rudyk…Not poking fun at you. I know exactly what you're saying. "NOTE" (Bank Note)is what we, in Canada, call our currency. Everyone here should know that. If the button said "Track Note", would that make it any simpler? It's a possibility. Do we need that change? I don't know myself. I do know however, that I never had any problem figuring it out when I first joined, and I believe the button then said "Add Bill". Please one person, confuse another. What's the difference!
"Banknote" would probably solve the issue.
Yes Mesmerize, great idea! "Add Banknote" would be perfect. :)
