Most message boards don't allow you to insert HTML in your messages directly. I allowed it initially because up until this point people used it within reason. Now since it's getting out of control, I'm working towards removing it. Eventually, I'll replace it with the ability to make things bold and such, but I'm not sure when that will happen.
While I realize that this site would be nowhere without you the users, I say this in the nicest way possible… this is my website. I programmed this site, I own the server, I pay for the internet connection, I maintain the code and I do this all without profit and in my own spare time. And well, ultimately that means that it's mine and I can do with it as I please. Sounds selfish, right? Absolutely. This site is basically a democratic dictatorship; I let people make suggestions for changes and I impliment the ones I like. If you don't like that, you don't have to come to this site. If you don't like something, make a comment about it… once. After that, you probably won't change my mind, especially if you have been around for only three months.
I listen to most comments and feedback that I get, especially if it's in the form of email. I may not reply to them all, but that's because I have a day job that keeps me equally busy. And as such, comments and suggestions have to be basically rated by me, such that a comment from Pooga (for example) is treated much more seriously that someone who joined last week. Why? Well, Pooga has been here for close to two years and I trust his judgement. But at the same time, he respects my decisions to do something whether he likes it or not. And if he doens't like it, he files the suggestion and moves on, thinking of new ideas to make the site better rather than continually complaining about the same thing over and over.
So, in summary, the ability to use HTML in messages is going to be reduced. The MARQUEE tag is going for sure. If you continue to use that tag because you can, then I will simply remove all HTML in the next release instead of a reduced set. That choice is yours. And whether or not you want to stick around and follow my rules after this is also your choice.

dr says: "Well, Pooga has been here for close to two years and I trust his judgement."
21 says: "Well, I'm of the same hitline, dr. Pooga is my granpappy. Why don't you let HIM decide about 21 because 3 months or 3 years doesn't seem to matter to anyone else but you."
YOUR website appears to need a name change because the last time I looked it was called CANADIAN-money.com (inclusive of EVERYONE) not Dr's-money.com (belonging to DR). You also say in teenie weenie print that you're the "site administrator". Should you not say instead Owner, Judge, and Jury?
dr also says: "But at the same time, he respects my decisions to do something whether he likes it or not."
21 counters: "…whether he likes it or not???…dr do you hear yourself? (Princess, RUN! Before it's too late!)Fortunately, I only inherited my looks from Pooga. 21 inherited her class from her daddy. One day Pooga will put his head back on ooks from Pooga Unfortunately, 21 is NOT in the army, has not had her rebellious spirit broken or crushed and so if dr doesn't like those jelly belly beans he can ignore 21.
THEN dr says: "…and if he doens't like it, he files the suggestion and moves on, thinking of new ideas to make THE SITE better rather than continually complaining about the same thing over and over."
21 wants to know: dr, you just said THE site. And here I thought all this time it was YOUR site. Make up your mind
If you dont like it goto whereswilly..
You're lucky we even have a forum
Well said dr. I respect your wishes and judgement and so should everyone else who uses this site..I for one appreciate all the fun dr. has given us. What say you all…..
HERE! HERE! This is the last bit of free fun I have been able to find on the net! At least that doesn't bombard you with ads! Now I do like to be able to highlight, or bold, or add a bit of color to my messages when I want to get a point across but I must say that the marquee you guys are using affects how my screen acts from time to time. Now in all fairness that could be because I have an old clunker that I have put together over the years so it likely is my fault not the code. I have been interupted repeatedly typing this so sorry for the blabber but I like this site the way it is without a lot of flash!!!!!!!! Well said dr!!
well said…It was fun while it lasted…
I like this site too!! I will never move to whereswilly, this site is much nicer and easier on the eyes. I have no complaints, besides I don't know how to use all that stuff anyways. And please keep doing what your doing dr, because I like it here!!!
Everything crazz just said goes for me to. I am really enjoying this site and would hate to see it go!
It took me a long timet o type this message because my head is still shaking from side to side in disbelief with yout comments.
1) Yes the site name is Canadian Money.com the .com by the way means that someone (not the goverment) paid for the name (Aug 26, 1999) and because the name does not expire until 2004 someone has continued to pay for that name. This fact alone, and other like we like in a country that for the time being anyway still has some hint of property rights makes this site the PROPERTY or IT'S OWNER. Not it's users. It can be as open or as restrictive as IT'S OWNER wishs it to be… I am not a member of the Military, nor have I even been so in your own words I have never had my spirit squashed (as a personal note I hold those in the military in very high regaurd they put up with 5000X more crap from the people of this country via's it's crapping goverment than I would ever). I do however. and will too my last breath defend the right to Private property, even little left wing whiners like you deserve to own what you invent and work for. No one else should have the right to tell you how it has to be used or sold.
2) If you don't like the idea of personal property rights, why don't you pick up your sorry A*( and move to a country that does not support the idea like North Korea or China.
Bish0p
Let me apologize.
My message was all garbled and nonsense.
Never mind what happened.
It was ALL 21's doing.
She deserves your disrespect.
Thank you Bishop…
tit for tat.
I for one won't miss the HTML content. Not because I haven't really used it…I've had Pooga put up a progress chart for me on occassion, but I find that some HTML messages with all flash and zero content of any importance to be a waste of my time.
I went through a period of about a month where I ignored the message forums because there was too much garbage of less-than zero worthwhile content. There have been periods when the site was slow due to large numbers of messages, and to see that most of them had nothing but "I can do this" scrolling and blinking across the screen was an infringement on the fun I've had with the site.
I like seeing witty discussion. I like the entertainment; the great prose; the black humour; the dog pictures; gathering pictures;etc, but the 'HTML Rambos' have made a lot of it a pain.
DR…carry on with a great job!
(To your duties…dismissed!)
To your duties…dismissed!
Heh, only us Army types will understand that. Incidentally, it was -35 or something (plus windchill) in WX (Wainwright) last week while I was there on gun camp advance party. Jeez… makes ya want the next war to be in someplace warm where all the girls wear bikinis, eh? :)
Will that be all, Sir? :)
-dr
Why? Well, Pooga has been here for close to two years and I trust his judgement.
BLUSH!
Possibly it's because some of us were here during the early, slow times of the site and have a better feel on what your intentions were at that time.
And I'm still whining about the lack of more stats, charts and graphs! But it's not something that's vital to the site. I think it's important to differentiate between site
improvements and
enhancements!
Maybe more later when I've had a bit of rest... long flight, with delays!
So much for good judgement…
Isn't the next war, and next few wars, all in the Middle East?
And my complaint towards the HTML was that when the scollers were used, it would take forever to read the message, becuase the message would go so slow.
Blinking text!?!? I absolutely detest that blink tag. That is the worst HTML tag ever created… just so you know. :) I think I'll remove the ability to use that one too; thanks for the reminder. :)
As for more stats, yes, I need to offload some admin duties (which I will try to do by the summer) so I can code more stats stuff.

I think in the next war, all the girls will be wearing burqua's.
(That comment could get me a 129!)
I'm off to a Janus Ex in Winnipeg this weekend…for us CSS types, it is usually taken in one of two ways: 1) A deer-in-the-headlights type of shock if we try to comprehend what is actually going on; or 2) a chance to catch up on much needed sleep at high rates of pay.
I was out there twice on EX 74 for an ATLAS EXPRESS. Thats where I learned a catD3e makes a really big hole in the ground if the LAPEs is a little to high! But it was spectatular HA! HA! Then I was in Wainright for a winter warfare instructor course in 79! Learned how to blow up lakes and rivers that time!! Camping in winter was so much fun! HA! HA!
I was never a winter warfare instructor, but I did take the course and several refreshers. Building a lean-to at -30 and then sleeping in it is something I don't miss.
You saw LAPEs in process? I was a TAMS O in Reg force. In theory, we were supposed to do them, but because of the danger to the aircraft, the CF stopped doing them except for operational requirements. Did a lot of chopper lifts though - my team in Petawawa did the last external cargo lift with the Chinooks before they were retired (and sold to the Dutch Army, who rebuilt them and still use them)
I was attached to TAMS in Pet for 6 months. It was over the winter of course! Lots of fun standing under a helo at -20 to do a hookup!! Chinooks were the most fun. You ever get a shock from one!!LOL I was sitting on the roof of a duce-n-a-half next thing I was on the ground and hurting!! Lucky It had just touched down so there wasn't much charge!
It's impossible for me to disagree.I don't even know what HTML is. A sure sign I won't miss it. It was big of 21 to apologize. DR. has every right to do what he want's. I don't have much spare time (haven't seen any t.v for over a year) and I fully apreciate anyone giving their time so that so many people could have some fun! Thanks. I didn't know there were (aperantly) so many military people. The world looks different depending on a persons perspective effecting thoughts and behaviour . this site has shown me a side of the military I could't have seen otherwise.something else I learned today Indian's no longer live in T-pees. I hope your all laughing by now. Have a good day! look all that without HTML.The world Isn't ready for a world without proprietership It may never b but who knows. I know It has a long way to go. I'm hoping to get some crisp 5's so I can mark them. That is why were here to have fun. Thanks again.
Hey pappahunt!
That story sounds familiar. When were you in Pet? I was in TN Coy as Ops O from Dec 90 - April 91, then TFC/TAMS O from then until I was posted in July 92. I saw one of my guys slide off of the frosty roof of an ML on a winter Ex one time.
I never got a shock from a Chinook, but I remember the thrill of the rides in the Iroquois (aka Huey) after a day of lifts. Loved 'nape of the earth'.
Does the phrase "Red sh_t" mean anything to you?
Army Memories Forum.
So I can be sure not to read it.
Since I can't understand your cute armyspeak anyway.
Except 'red sh*t'.
You know the words, but do you know what it REALLY means…to a military Traffic Tech? You'd be surprised!
Ya 21. I've been around the military my whole life and I still can't figure out the lingo half the time. I call it shop talk and just tune it out.
