Hey does anyone know how accurate the map is that is generated when you click on the name of the city or town? I'm guessing it goes by your postal code?

MapQuest is generally regarded as one of the best online mapping sites out there. I just clicked on two locations (my home town and a villiage close to here, both of which I know the location.) They both came up very accuratly.

When you click on my location, the location shown is about 2 kilometers south of my place….
I'm confused about the map because I've had three hits on different bills on different days. One was a registered person, the other two were anonymous and they all bring up the exact same location in Calgary. They don't seem to match up except for the location.
They work on postal codes, so they couldn have been entered by the same person and after the second bill this person decided to register or alll of the people that entered the bills live in the same postal code…
There are several hundred thousand postal codes in this country. As a result, there is a lot of data, both to purchase and then to maintain. So, to make my life easier, I only have the latitude and longitude down to the Forward Sortation Area (FSA) level for urban locations that is the first 3 characters of your postal code, yielding 29,000 locations, give or take within 1324 different FSA's. As a result, if a bill goes from T2P 7A1 to T2P 1H7, it will appear to be in the same spot and thus not travelled at all.
In the future I may purchase the lat/longs down to the local delivery unit (LDU) level, but for now you'll have to make do with what we have. :)

Thanks for the explaination dr..I am now a Little wiser….
No! A hole lot wiser!!! Thanks for the explanation dr maybe you should put that in the FAQ some where!!
We learn something new everyday. My teacher once said that. Even after 2 1/2 years, I still can't prove that wrong.
still can't after 25 years either.
Wow, that explains why it seems like dr and someone else were entering bills from the exact same location in downtown Calgary.

My Grandfather added to that saying: "And if you didn't you were not paying attention!"
Ya, I've heard that before.
I heard it said once that a day without learning is a day wasted! I figure thats the day they plant me!!!!
