Amazing. I can't believe he even remembered his user name or password.

Cool…. I was thinking the same as Conk!
Pooga
remembered his user name or password
My first thought as well.

Man, I can't even remember my original screenname, don't even think about the password

Quite a coincidence…I would think that it defies all odds of the likes ever happening.

really eroom? "defies ALL odds"? seems as though it DID occur so it was clearly possible. :)
eroom29
I like your terminology. It "seems [italics mine] as though it DID occur…."
rudyk
"seems" means that to all observational evidence, it occurred. I am not sure of the lexicon from which you draw your understanding. My suggestion, to be explicit in this instance, instead of implicit, is: if you have an accusation, make it. Perhaps you'll have less trouble interpreting that.
eroom29
I am not accusing anyone of anything; I am simply commenting on your use of the language.
I say back to you,"I am not sure of the lexicon from which you [emphasis mine] draw your understanding."
The "lexicon" from which I draw some of my understanding is an old, abridged Merriam-Webster dictionary that has been in the family from the last millenium.
Allow me to quote the first meaning listed for the word "seem". From page 1038, I quote, "seem…1: to give the impression of being ".
Merriam-Webster goes further. On the same page and under the same entry word comes this further explanation and enlightenment and, again I quote, " syn [synonym] SEEM, LOOK, APPEAR shared meaning element : to give the impression of being as stated without necessarily being so in fact ".
Now, Mr. rudyk, as I see it here from Atlantic Canada, if I were you, I would (1) withdraw the word "seem" or (2) (to quote yourself) "if you have an accusation, make it."
Respectfully,
eroom29 (and not, thank you, "eroom")

ER…. far be it from me to get into a diction discussion, but I think that if you were to peruse m-w.com (which is like your dictionary, but less papery), you would find that "seem" means, in its primary definition: 1 : to appear to the observation or understanding. or 2 : to give the impression of being. Both of these connote more certainty than you presume. our lexicon evolves and if you are using a particular dated source, you might find that it is no longer valid. for example, the term "idiot", at one time, had a precise meaning in terms of measured IQ. today, it can be appropriately applied to any self-righteous malcontent, who may or may not also be a dolt. but I digress…
however, the message in my original original missive seems to have been waylaid. the issue I had was with your seeming incredulity of the occurrence of the event Pooga reported. my subtle suggestion was that since the event was apparent (or "seemed to occur") that it was no longer in the realm of probability but was an actual certainty. it seemed to me (note the careful choice of words) that your post inferred that there might be something nefarious in this event. I was asking you to clarify. if you were making no accusation and only demonstrating your perverse understanding of that which is stochastic, I apologise for misconstruing your words. if your intention was to suggest that there was something untoward happening, then I think it behooves you to elaborate.
Pooga
As interesting as this discussion is, I would suggest that either
(i) you 'scholars' write a paper defending your positions, or
(ii) you 'boys' take it out back and decide the matter privately.

well well well leave the paly ground for a while and look what happens. Pooga you should be asking them to play nice not go out back! DR's prime directive PLAY NICE.
rudyk
with all due respect to the two esteemed posters above… "playing nice" is open to interpretation. agrument is that way in which a goodly proportion of knowledge or understanding is gained. you might want to try it sometime rather than choosing banality and false or enforced comaraderie. the discussion has stimulated my intellect more than 95% of what happens here. rather than "play nice", which was always a just a strategy to make someone's life easier, try a rejoinder or just ignore it. seems a less intrusive solution than muzzling.
and BC… you REALLY ought to mind the 1st Commandment.
antics
to use salty english, wtf???
are you totally nuts??
rudyk
antics ejaculates:
to use salty english, wtf???

well, Pooga?… no admonition when someone ACTUALLY turns abusive? :)
but thanks, Antics, for your emission… care to elaborate?
antics
not particularly. enough childishness going on as it is.
csuka
i think i'm in agreement with antics
