I'm sure everyone has noticed that dr's address is @cdn-money.com. Does anyone else think that this is cool address?
What if the system were set up to give everyone such an address? This could replace the anonymous e-mailer. I know that a server can be set up to automatically bounce an e-mail to a different address.
So to give you an example, my anon address would be white_owl@cdn-money.com. A message sent to this address would be bounced to white_owl@sympatico.ca which is the mailbox that I would check. This is the same mailbox that a message sent through the anon e-mailer is sent to.
Two questions
1) to dr: How hard would it be to set up such a system?
2) to all users: Would you be interested in this?

i think its a good idea… then just have webmail.. however, I also know that it is time consuming to set up.

Anonymous e-mail is here to stay. Too many people prefer to keep their identity, and everything else private. I am certain DR will weigh in on this one…
I like the "private messages" like on the cdnpapermoney forums.. Easy to use, and you get and send the message right on the site.
It's a good idea, but:
- I don't want to give up the domain like that.
- it's a tonne of work to administer
- there too little return for the amount of work
- etc…
Why don't I want to give up the domain? Mostly because it's a hassle. I now become the contact point for any e-mails that are sent out using a @cdn-money.com address that someone doesn't like. So, for example, you sent a nasty gram to someone and give myusername@cdn-money.com as your return email. That person will probably reply to you, but will also start hassling me asking why this person is associated with CMT. And, to continue down this "slippery slope," someone could then name me in a libel suit or something because I own the domain.
Even though "shared" email domains like this exist, most people still associate your email with your organization; that is, everyone will think that you are part of cdn-money.com from an admin stand point, as in you work for cdn-money.com or something. Anyway, long of the short of it is that it's just too much hassle. Sorry gang.
