Can some of you please go there and read my message about the bank today refusing to give me fives. Can you please respond and give me some feedback about that issue. Thank you.

Hi Nelson,

It's like this… the Money we all carry around with us, is pretty much not worth the paper it is printed on. The only one that will vouch for it's worth is our goverment, and we all know how much they are worth :)

In Canada, Notes printed by the Bnak of Canada are considered 'Legal tender', and the sad but true story is that no one HAS TO ACCEPT THEM but the goverment. Any merchant can refuse to sell you something if they don't like something (anything) about the 'tender' you are attempting to exchange for their product or service.

If your bank has been receiving a large number of complaints about stamped bills from it's commercal clients (you know the clients that the banks make most of their money off of) their only obligation to you as a client is to allow you to withdraw your funds and close your account, if you feel strongly enough about their stand.

As a personal client I can tell you from personal experance they don't give a darn about you unless you owe them lots of money and have the abilty to pay their high interest rates.

Like any other service industry if you don't like the service your bank is giving you, your only recourse is to move to another bank and start building a relationship their.

Or you can go after them- talk to the manager and ask him if it's the bank's policy to refuse to pay out the denominations that customers request. If you don't like what he says, talk to the regional manager and see if it's still the bank's policy. Still no good? Talk to the bank's ombudsman. Every bank has one. Bank tellers like to intimidate people, and when they discover you're not going to roll over, they usually smarten up. If they don't, it might take a phone call from a regional manager to smarten them up. Amazing how freindly tellers get when they know you've talked to thier boss's boss about things…

I agree With Idjit I have an experience with the scotiabank. The Teller told me I had to go to my home branch to update my bank book because there were over 40 transactions. I phoned the head office and the next time i went in there they were just about ready to lick my boots.

Nelson,

As long as you aren't withdrawing fives, stamping them, than depositing them again just to get bills out in circulation, repeating; I don't think they should have a problem. Also not doing that with the local qwik-e-mart either.
