dr & beer

dr, wasn't sure where to put this comment. :-)

It looks like the IPA brew is dead. Marketing just doesn't want to do it. So we tried another type this week.

I brewed an English bitter on Wednesday night. Even Sarge was there when I started the brew! Should be ready in about 4 weeks. I'll probably have some for the June 1 gathering. Too bad you'll miss it!

(Don't worry, I'll save you some.)

Well Pooga if it helps, Honey Wheat is a really good seller at our bar, and my "better half"? they ( His work) have pallets of great western light brewed with their label " Cat stuff" ( different label every pallet) all the time.

Heh, you're lucky I read the Central forum today… normally I skip it.

Anyway, well I think your marketing department is a bunch of buffoons, but whatever. I perhaps don't understand your goals and/or target market. But if I were them, I'd be looking to make a name in an area where no one has a name already. Sure Keith's is an IPA supposedly (I say "supposedly" because for anyone who's ever tasted a real IPA, Keith's is a watered down crap beer that tastes just like the other major brewers' beer), but if you asked most beer drinkers who drink Keith's what their favourite IPA and /or India Pale Ale is, I bet most of them wouldn't have a clue what you are talking about. They drink Keith's because it's called Keith's and because it comes from Nova Scotia not because they have the faintest clue what an IPA is. That all said, I still think there is a HUGE opportunity for someone to come in an make a world class IPA. Big Rock has one now, but they do very little actual marketing so there is almost no one carrying it on tap nor do many people know about it. But, anyways, I digress… no worries.

On a somewhat related note, how do you actually brew beer? Do you select the ingredients and stuff yourself or do you just go and buy extra big Costco sized brew kits? :) Is there a web page or something I can go check out?

dr, go to Pooga's website, he has done a great job breaking down the process of brewing beer.

I bought a four-pack of IPA yesterday. First time for me. What a great taste. Can't remember the brewer. Red cans for about $12.00

I don't know much about beer, can't drink it, something about the malt and allergies, but we have Rickers Red on tap and that also seems to go really well. Don't know who makes that.

Pooga

Rickards Red…. Molson.
Kokanee… Labatt.

McEwan's IPA…. haven't tried that one. I've always been a porter/imperial stout lover, so I usually pick up McEwan's Scotch Ale or Malt Liquor. Yellow label. They keep changing the name!
