Today I was informed by my bank account manager, that ANY of the NEW POLYMER banknotes that they receive marked/stamped/damaged, etc are to immediately removed from circulation and returned to the central bank for destruction along with the old notes that are in bad shape/torn/mutilated/taped.
They received this notice last week. THE NEW 20's come out next month.
Could this possibly be the explanation as to why I NEVER get any hits from the 100's and 50's that I circulate?
It will only get worse once the new polymer 20's/10's/5's come out.
Anyone else have this problem?
It would be my guess that the bank of Canada will not dispose of these notes… They will put them back into circulation, but I guess only time will tell..
Hope so!
But, as I said, to date I've had no luck on hits from the 100's and 50's that I've entered. Guess I'll just have to wait with my fingers crossed :)
Was it BMO?
A few years back I was told, that I was going to be "red flagged?!" and next time they wont accept any stamped notes anymore…. and for sure next time …. oohhh there is a note on your account about stamped notes….
Well they took it anywas and never had any problems.
Other banks just show some curiosity, and I deposit cash on a weelky basis.
I have to admitt, on an other site I have mostly old 5er's and I don't get that many hits anymore. Maybe thei are sending them back to BoC.
But to the contrary to movie-fan I got a couple of hits on the new 100 and 50s.
While I'm at it; Anyone in the cash business noticed, that since the new 50's are out there are more in circulation then before? Banktellers couldn't give me a clue either.
Actually, it was SCOTIABANK.
And I , too, got a flagged note on my account at a Credit Union.
I think they just want to scare people off.
As long BoC doesn't officially outlaw the marking, there is nothing they can do about it.
Marking polymer: Anyone elses experience with StazeOn?
50's: haven't any problems
100's: it seems the ink evaporates and the marking is fading. I started to clean the marking with nailpolish (yes is passt the chemical test of aceton, lol) and restamped it, after leaving the pad to dry a bit (sticky).
Stazonj seems to work onall the notes I stamp including the hundreds.
Banks just love to think they own this money. Just for the record:
Banks can't refuse to accept bills. It's against the law.
If the bank sends in marked bills 'for destruction' the B of C simply re-issue them, unless they truly are are defaced (unreadable/could be mistaken for another denomination) This is why your stamp, if you use one, should be small and tastefully located on the bill. I've seen some that were stamped several places with the same stamp- this is bad form.
50's are not the best bills to check for hits. It's 5s and 20s. Don't ask why, I just know.
Happy tracking!
I only stamp in the top right corner of the note, directly underneath the braile markings so as not to interfere with them. The new 100's & 50's are a different story….and later this month , the 20's.
I am continuing to stamp and circulate.
Wow Idjit Your back my hit dad is back home. YES what a great surprise hope to see you in here often.
