Hits from fellow users of the site

Does everyone agree that it's not fair to receive "unnatural" hits from other users on this site? While I agree that you may be purchasing something (probably something money related) from user X which follows the suggested use practices, I need to draw the line somewhere. I owe my brother $300. What is stopping me from paying him in cash with bills that I've already entered, that way I'll get a bunch of hits. Nothing really. Is it normal use of cash? Sure, 'cause I pay people back all the time using cash. But is it fair? No, I don't think so. I do not want this site to get out of control in terms of people passing bills back and forth.

Now, that's not to say that we shouldn't track the fact that the bill changed hands, especially if it's moving around the country. So, any hits received, say, in the past couple of days received as a result of some transaction, are going to be removed from both the individual's and the team's scores. However, the entry will remain in the database. So any future hits on the bills will produced hits for the parties involved.

I hope that this seems fair, and that you catch my drift about the downward spiral of destruction and despair that I want to avoid.

I have no problem with whatever you decide. It's your site, your time, your effort.

That being said, I am sure that you won't give preferential treatment to those who lavish you with gifts.

I think you have to draw the line in the other direction as well. For example, there is that bill I picked up in November that was marked by someone else. SARGE had the same thing a few days ago. Those have to be considered legit as they were in circulation, and the ultimate purpose IS to track time and distance. Although it may be difficult as you can only decide based on the honesty of the user and what was posted in the comment window.

As much as I need some more hits coming my way, I think this is a necessary measure to unsure we have accurate results.
