Hey kaiser, that was a very perceptive way of looking at the site. Although you described the structure, I think that you misnamed it. Wouldn't a 'Benevolent Dictatorship' be more accurate?

Serotonin

'Benevolent dictatorship' captures the Canadian political system much better than 'democracy' does. The 20th Century popular philosopher Will Durant opined that of all the different forms of governments historically, the 'benevolent dictatorship' probably served the people the best, even ahead of 'democracy' as it is/was practised in different societies.

Truth of the matter is, a true democracy would not work because everyone would have to vote on every decision.

I've seen simulated situations like that. They work, in a way. But it gets to be annoying, and a pain.

hell i dont care if we are a dictatorship as long as the politicians are honest, which certanly doesnt happen here

Oh my, can't believe you used the words POLITITCIANS and HONEST in the same sentence. LOL

I can't say for sure, but I don't believe you don't have to vote on everything to have a "true democracy." You do however have do to something like that if you want a "direct democracy". And contrary to what was mentioned it can actually work if you can believe it.

In Porto Alegre, Brazil, they have a city government which works under this system. In other words you get to vote on how your local tax dollars are spent! It resulted in great reductions of slums and large increases in services and other great things. Search on Google or check out my web site if anyone wants to read more about it as I wrote a term-paper about the city and how it is governed. Now if only we could get something like that here in Canada.
