Hope the back is more interesting than the front…
Those wild Americans!
http://money.cnn.com/2003/05/13/news/economy/twenty/index.htm
it looks more like monopoly money than our bills! (i don't really think our bill look like monopoly ones) :)
Meh, its a start
Take a virtual tour
Color…… what color??? and who is that, Christopher Lloyd????
Thats crap. The Americans are so lazy. Why not really make it colourfull?
LOL Christopher Lloyd! They wouldn't make it anymore colourful than that because people would get upset. The Americans are quite traditional about their currency…
That's why they've attempted a 1$ coin twice and failed. If they introduced a design like we are switching to, they'd probably go nuts.
And with the $1 coin, a main problem was not getting rid of the bill. With that, who would use a coin?
Sorry, but what do you mean? I didn't get it.
Well, the US wants to follow our example, and eliminate the dollar bill. This saves money. But, after the first attempt from 1979-1999, no one really used them Official expllanation: Looked like quarters. The new ones look nothing like them, but little useage. Reason for this, and the first one: To successfully make a coin, you can't have a bill of it, too. The RCM and BoC knew that, so deleted the $1 bill and made the Loonie, while gradually destroying the bill. The US is keeping the bill, and the coin. Now think to yourself: "I can use a coin or a bill. What will I use?". The choice is ovious. Your going to use the bill 99% of the time. Without the bill, Americans grudingly have to accept the coin. Just like the new nickel for the next 3 years, Virginians hate it, but have no choice but to use it.
Thats what I meant.
Just like the new nickel for the next 3 years, Virginians hate it, but have no choice but to use it.
That sounds interesting. Do you have a link to a story on that?
This should work: New Nickel Story
If you want to know moe about currency news, theres a site I found a while ago, Coin Today. It updates a few times a week with news on stuff, mostly coins, but some interesting articles.
What's so new about their nickel that would make people dislike them?
The Virginians are angry because it is going to commemerate the Lewis and Clark Expedition/Lousiana Purchase. This would remore Monticello, in Virginia
But would they replace the Monticello permanently? I mean, the Mint messed around with our dime and peed off the folks out east, but they fortunately gave us our Bluenose back…
No, the bill only allows it to be gone from the production years of 2003-2006. Otherwise, the representatives from Virginia wouldn't vote on it.
Three years seems like a long time…Is that how long the expedition went for? I'm not exactly a U.S. history buff… prefer to concentrate on my own country first!
It generally went that long. Remember, they started in St. Louis, went to Portland, Oregon, and down south as far as Denver. And this was when they only travelled in a canoe.
Just a little off in the southerly direction there. Try this text:
<a href=http://www.lewisandclark.org/history.htm target=_new>http://www.lewisandclark.org/history.htm</a>
or this map:

Considering many Canadian based trappers had already been though the area the previous 125 years, the only thing noteworthy about Lewis and Clark is that they made notes! But Americans are good at celebrating their history.
Figures they'd make the bigger fuss…We still rule, though!
I wouldn't put it past the Yanks to say that THEY are the ones who invented multi-coloured bills they have copied our stuff(some of which we didn't invent) and call it their own……..
