There will be lots of money flying around there for those 2 weeks or so. Congrates to BC - you guys deserve it!

Can't say I support the whole thing. This will probably be contrary to what everyone has to say. I will sound like party crasher.

So while hopefully the Olympics do benefit the whole province, I doubt it will. I guess as a resident of outside the Lower Mainland I've grown so tired of the fact we create most of the wealth for the province, yet see little of it returned. So as Northern communities suffer as a result of the softwood lumber dispute and through lack of funding and negligence, over a billion dollars is spent in the Vancouver area. So as services are cut everywhere because "there is no money", apparently there IS money for the Olympics. Well that is my rant, I'd love to hear what others think.

Well, apparently B.C. will have to come up with somewhere in the neighbourhood of $2 billion to do things like construct the athlete's village and new venues, and to update exisiting ones. This also includes $600 million to fix the highway between Vancouver and Whistler. Of course, taxpayers will foot the bill. I'm sure you didn't want to hear that T-Rev, but those are the figures that were given on the news. Hopefully they'll be able to generate enough revenue to make up for it. I'd hate to see another Canadian city pay off its Olympics for a long time…oh those poor taxpayers in Montreal :(

Well, I'm on the Island, and the soft-wood lumber has killed off a lot of jobs here, too. And with the Olympics, at least they will finally fix the Sea-to-Sky Highway, which is horrible.

Congrats to Vancouver for getting the Olympics. I heard on The Score last night that the opinion was that people in the Vancouver area won't be too crazy about it. They'll just rent out their houses for two weeks and skip town. Yes it will cost tons of cash to host a two week spectacle, but will it be worth it? The Canucks will be homeless for that period of time (provided that the NHL still exists). That could hurt the team by being on the road for so long. WPG survived the Pan-Am games. Hopefully Vancouver will too. Northern BC might suffer but at least you'll have a nice highway from Vancouver to Whistler. :)

and they increased the speed limit to 110 in Sask. Didn't know combines went that fast. :)
