It's sad, Wally, but every once in a while you'll get someone who insists on destroying some of Canada's beautiful currency just to try to make some kind of point. You'll notice they remain anonymous because they don't have the courage to put their name beside their convictions. It's a good indication of how much they really believe them…

And a bill thats in that kind of condition? Thats terrible…if its true. Can't banks get in trouble for destroying good bills?

eagle_fs

I really don't think it's going to be destroyed. I think he's commenting on the notion that if you write on a bill, it'll be destroyed. In his eyes, since we stamped it, it will be on the way to be destroyed the next time it hits a bank. I could be wrong, but people like this like to show their ignorance.

the bank of canada will most likely reissue it anyhow. help it along on its travels

kimberlite

Well the truth is, once I stamped that bill it went directly into the bank, and they didn't destroy it so I fully expect to get another hit someday soon on that bill!

Banks don't destroy bills; if they did, they'd be out the value of the bill. Instead banks send bills to the Bank of Canada and the BoC decides if a bills is to be taken out of circulation based on a number of criteria. So anyone that thinks a bill in good condition will be destroyed is wrong. I also heard from a teller that the BoC gets mad if banks send too many bills for destruction that don't meet the criteria so banks will eventually catch on.

It sounded to me like that person was going to 'deliberately mutilate' the bill so it would be destroyed…..but I think that is against the law for sure…

meangene79

That would be illegal. And like Idjit said, those who remain anonymous while stating a bill will be destroyed due to 'mutilation' don't really believe it.
