dr, check out this hit:

Now explain to me how two different place names have the same postal code. And how Mapquest shows these two towns to be in the middle of Gimli Manitoba! With NO distance between them yet!

<a href=http://www.mapquest.com/maps/map.adp?mqmap.x=441&mqmap.y=361&mapdata=Z4hBeDJQe5fwjrHQfYt9fA%252bdqo%252fVUHDbYoB4yTRmGXmTOHMI9sjir0Vjz44EW5NFUsOp6dn1O1y%252fghkmvm8YK8kLh1rI2jk6Ymb6cr39iMG4GQ4nFLr%252fvrqrru0ALdyvYNrCs02wKMmOjGdq698aIuAQV4yReWXPC%252f8BRmq8fOmkTXzB5sHaV4JYEd0RUtUg9gD3Bemg5HNWxW%252fLX%252bBR98f0zDQSUzGaLz%252bPlakZ29J%252bqarLBnFLt8TXl%252bN1X6xIjOQwRvm4AoEsFMTLnmwawQ%253d%253d&click=center target=_blank>Ashern</a> is actually about 100 km northwest of Gimli. While <a href=http://www.mapquest.com/maps/map.adp?zoom=4&mapdata=i8rr6UmMevOMxP3YYUy09VuF3s7zcMguOewcbcZcRreqtBald0Cm%2fgxtDeEPA3ZoELSziqPWWjXAcEIxaVu2n0Yh1jGd2ozlL%2fddbG3RXzd5P7TLRapz55Ioi%2bmNHSWKm2fBzmCFMLvo9nATNzqpGbHheDS7L7E%2f7L5qebWcI4WPEqUTJPBO%2bn4WLq4ZZkph8Z8Ebx8jp%2bUyK77qF318HnhE2j8MFVqWQGptg2d9Lw4LMQPtqYpIQh5A%2fDZK1MIyXe%2ftI9CmjQOHwPOgtNF5dDl98RN94DFD target=_blank>Riverton</a> is about 30 km north of Gimli.

EWRoss

Ashern's Postal Code is R0C 0E0 (both GD and PO Box)
Riverton's Postal Code is R0C 2R0 (Only PO Box)

So, I'm guessing the both live in the same town, and they have they put in the same Postal Code, but one of them got the bill from the other town…. call it imported!!!

antics

or they live in a different postal code area than they pick their mail up in. That is common around here.

Pooga

But check out the links. Both postal codes linked through Mapquest end up in Gimli. So they have to be the same. Therefore there may be an error in the postal code data dr has entered.

OOORRRR!!! It could be one of the few that are still to the first half of the code only! Now I recomend the advil migrain gel caps and bed! OK night night nice people!!LOL!

Did you notice that the comment on the Riverton hit says Arborg, Mb? Explanation: All these places belong in the ROC postal code. This is also another fine example of how the location of our hits is determined is totally wacked.

No just a little off. It has to do with the program that matches postal codes with lat and long and map quest. You should have seen it when dr only had the first three to use! Maybe someday someone will put one out that goes to the address, but then the privacy issue rears its ugly head again and were back to the same cicular argument we've had since I started here and since the site first started period. Anyway it's all been said before in the archives so if you have three or four months read on.

No, I don't think so. I have had several hits in the R0L (west-central Manitoba) postal code with clear seperation between towns and even villages. This is the only case I've seen where two diffent town names end up in the middle of a third town!

dr

The database has a lot of rural places with the same or very similar lat/longs. Sorry, but that's just the way it is. For example, of the 58 postal codes that start with R0C, 47 of them have the same lat/long coordinate as Gimli.

Pooga, can you perhaps make a note of that (in the form of a bug) and I'll bring it up with my postal code supplier.
