today I went to my bank "CONEXUS" and I traded my marked 20's for unmarked ones. The gal at the bank informed me that she sends them away as defaced bills. I was very disappointed about that and tried to explain to her that it is not defacing the bill since there is no law that says that on paper money. i went on to explain the site to her and she said sorry to me but that could mean that all those bills that i have taken to the bank and exchanged have been destroyed. Needless to say I will not trade my bills there anymore…… :-(
they may send them on but they will be reissued and sent out again. this will help them travel and maybe they will "go further than no bill has gone before!" ha ha unless they are ripped all to ka ka they are helping them travel.
oh antics thanx for sharing that info to me. I was having a major panic attack after leaving the bank LOL!!!!!! By the way antics give me the name of your antique store there so that i can come up and see you and your store. thanx again…. :-)
He's right. Only the Bank of Canada has the authority when it comes to deciding what bills have been "defaced" and which will be destroyed. Banks can get into trouble if they send too many good bills to be destroyed.
ahem!!! SHE not he. LOL
Anyhow it is Lebret Antiques right on the highway in Lebret. easy to find. open every day till the end of August maybe mid Sept. then I take Tuesdays off.
whee. no rest for the wicked!!
thanks antics, I will get tothe map and my friend and I will make a trip up there….and of course spend a few bills up your way…… :-)
well, since no-one else will say it and since i already have this reputation, i guess i feel compelled to point out the site's "Code of Conduct" again….

- ACQUIRING BILLS
How you aquire bills to enter into CMT is entirely up to you. You can, for example, simply enter any bills that come into your possession thoughtout the course of your every day activities, such as buying lunch or renting a movie. You can also go to the bank and take out as much money as you like (from your own bank account), enter those bills and then use them to purchase items. You are HIGHLY discouraged from taking money out, entering it, and then re-depositing the money back into the bank. The bank will probably look at this as suspicious activity and in the end it will probably end up hurting you and the rest of the users at the site. You can also collect bills from your friends and family and enter those bills as well, so long as when you return the money, your friends and family don't turn around and enter those same bills. If you're unsure, send us an email and we can clarify for you.
thank you rudyk. That is not a rule of conduct that I was aware of and will not do that anymore. I will also take the time to read the general code of conduct. thanx for this info.
Don't worry, maggiemae, we won't hold it against you. :) There's nothing wrong with depositing marked bills, just don't do it over and over with smaller bills as explained in the code of conduct. For example, when I sometimes receive rent in cash I mark all the bills and then deposit it into the bank.
