Looking for a new challenge DR? Here's an idea. Create a parrallel site for the Euro! Their bills come in numerous currencies as well, and apparently have unique backsides depending on the country they were first issued in - although all can be spent in any other Euro-country. Most of your coding for this site could likely be used for that one.
Call it euro-money.com or something similar. (Unlike the 'dark site' that, if they did it, would call it "Where's Charlie" for Charlamagne).
Heh, as fun as that might be, I have enough work to do running this site. Add to my already full plate a site which would have users that speak 6 g-zillion languages and there's no time to maintain the Canack site properly… :)
-dr
dr you under estimate your abilities. You have youth, energy, creativity, enthusiasm, curiosity and a seemingly passionate interest in technology. You can do it but turn it into a money maker. Also, altruistic and providing a public service by generating a data base that can contribute to the evolving demographics of this great country of ours. Canack
What a snow job! You otta be in sales..
Nah, S must be a philosophy major.
Sounds a bit like our CEO! (right DR?)
Sarge: Parallel only has one "R"… so I think we can excuse my typing mistake on Canuck. :)
Serotonin: This site is purely for fun. I don't want to even try to make money from it. Ads are distracting and annoying and I don't plan to ever have any. In terms of energy and time and stuff, that may be true, however, I like to spend some free time snow boarding and such. I refuse to be one of those 24 hour nerds who simply locks themselves in their rooms. :)
-dr
ya… nerds get the lead "hacker" role in the movies but they never get the girl… stay with snowboarding…
-BD
Heh, I actually prefer the term "geek." (I even have a t-shirt that says geek on it) I tend to think of nerds as those guys we see on TV who use their computers 24 hours a day. Geeks are guys who love computers too but after work go out and drink, snowboard, do wheelies on their sportbikes, whatever, so long as it's not computer related. That's me.
-dr
whatever, so long as it's not computer related. That's me.
And that includes firing big guns and blowing things up????
I sell "hope" It's exhausting. Hence, relaxation with the light banter and wierd mindlooping that goes on with this site. A life saver and a different way of getting into people's heads and vice versa.
dr:I know that about you already that's why I can spoof. You seem to know the secret to contentment is "balance"
I sell "hope"
I thought pimping was illegal.
(BTW - how much does she charge?)
Sounds like you and Sarge, being old buddies, think along the same line. With Jade working under the table he"didn't want to go there."
Hope comes in many forms indeed, it might deserve a thread of its own. What is it, who has it, who needs it, how do they use it etc, lots of ideas from (let's face it) pretty interesting, diverse bunch of people that dr has masterfully captured by his site. Indeed, that suggests another thread: who and why is any one here (does it have to do with hope?), any compulsive collectors (I find mmMBeer pretty active on at least two other sites I visit and I collect currency as he does.(Boy, does that guy seem to get around keeping true to the person we have grown to love ). I collect corkscrews but that's a whole other site etc.
some interesting information could be collated. another thought is collecting demographic information for this site. It would require its own item display but what is the mean age/median age of the group? the range-youngest to oldest; males, female # Sent anonymously to dr or someone else delegated to maintain that part. Privacy maintained but interesting, evolving demographics which contributes to the mass of stats re; notes. Easy to capture the data. What do you think: (I tend to ramble at this time of the day)
Easy to capture the data.
I believe dr probably has a lot of that data, it's just a matter of him having the time, energy and inclination to assemble it.
But you certainly have some ideas worth exploring.
you and Sarge, being old buddies,
Yeah, real old. I've known him for 43 years.
Hmmmm… maybe WE'RE the oldest ones on the site! Anybody else remember 10" floppy disks, keypunch cards and card readers, FORTRAN and COBOL??????
i remeber the 10" floppies but no keypunch cards or FORTAN's or COBOL's… sorry I am only 14..
-BD
I remember 10" floppys, does that make you feel any better.
10" floppy disks, keypunch cards and card readers
I remember those. we used to use them in the machines at work. years and years ago.
Anyone remember how to use a slide rule? maybe I'm the oldest guy here….
Idjit - got you beat by 2 years!
BD - doubt if you remember 10" floppies, the last time I saw them used was 1978. You're probably thinking 5 1/4".
Pooga- 2 years and CMT 249.4821!
Hey.. Where do you know me from 2 other sites?? www.cdnpapermoney.com??? And where else? Here? Man that was one of the longest blabbing on about senseless stuff in a while. How did this conversation bring us back down memory lane, and was idjit and pooga comparing ages? Or what were you talking about?
BD - doubt if you remember 10" floppies, the last time I saw them used was 1978. You're probably thinking 5 1/4".
Ya probably… I remember the big floopy things that were massive in size…
-BD
Probably ebay mmMBeer. It is hard to follow threads for some when it moves towards the abstract. Re. ages it is also true you have more as you get older. Peter Pan did have something. I wish I were him at times.
