and if he doesn't want us to be happy and enter our stupid comments…
For the last time, that's not what I was saying. Everyone calm down and listen to what I'm saying. Perhaps some of you are new to these community-type websites. I'm refering to sites where users return to the site regularly (ie. daily or so) and the site starts out rather small and eveyone gets to know everyone else, but then grows rapidly and things get outta control. Regardless, I have been involved in several similar websites (such as Slashdot) and have seen what the growth of a site can do. I was simply pointing out that bragging about a milestone will lead to eratic user behaviour. Trust me. And to me, it seemed silly to have that happen, especially when no one even remembers (for example) who the person was that entered the bill that brought us to pervious "milestones" (such as the $10,000 mark).

lets all just have some fun!! And shut up about this ok
If that fails to satisfy people, how about a new board catagory 'The BRAGGING BOARD', for users to make exactly the kind of comments that take up space? Maybe the comments could be programmed to delete themselves after 30 days. And those who are tired of all this stuff could just ignore the whole board when reading messages.
It's not an issue with brag messages taking up space on the boards, Sarge. The problem is with what people may do (ie. going out of their way) to get milestones entries/hits.

I like the idea of a "bragging board" also. I couldn't care less about details; it's not my "thing". The issue of personal integrity and honesty that is raised is a much more difficult issue. ?Would a dedicated "bragging board" encourage questionable innovative strategies to get the "hits, etc."?
Eh, its like flyers in the mail, a bunch of junk messages.
