in the wheres willy forum someone said something interesting.
they mark their bills with
"Bill tracking study www.whereswilly.com"
they handwrite it in, i think it would look better as a stamp.. b4 i read that i wouldn't have considered getting a new stamp.
but i beleive as this person beleives, it would increase the chance of the bill getting a hit..
more people will enter it to help a "study" than to just see where it goes..
who knows it may even keep more people as members
I read something similar in the forums of WG. Something like "Report this defaced bill to wheresgeorge.com". I thought that was pretty clever.
The one I have been using for the last year is red, and in a rectangle with rounded corners that says:
CURRENCY
TRACKING STUDY
Enter Serial Number @
www.cdn-money.com
yeah I noticed that eagle has started marking his bills like that.
Pooga I have seen that one at Downtown Bingo in Saskatoon
And you never entered it????
For shame!!!!
pooga, while i hope that you know that you have my utmost respect around here, i do have a small quibble with the modus operandi of your stamp. many people in research positions depend on the good will of folks who will voluntarily submit to surveys. when this good will is somewhat compromised by this, or similar, sleight – it makes performing research more difficult. while i may someday publish a paper on the results of my money-tracking experiences, it won't be in a serious vein nor will i believe it to be especially cutting-edge research. but i certainly hope that those investigators who ARE doing important research don't have their work curtailed because their subjects have been sent on specious pursuits at some time in their lives.

I think any study will lean heavily on chaos theory
the good will of folks who will voluntarily submit to surveys
Interesting that you should mention that. After being contacted (three times now) by US survey companies and being PAID $10 US each time, I believe that my opinion is too valuable to give away for free. So now when I get asked to do a survey of any kind, I always ask what their 'honourarium' is first. Makes for some fun discussions with the interviewer!!!
well pooga, we certainly agree that the bozos doing MARKET research should be taken for all that they are worth. :) i come from a university research environment when graduate student and faculty research initiatives can ill-afford to pay respomdemts and, indeed, would likely have their results called into question if offered remuneration. i hadn't even considered market-based research when i responded… if that is the type of survey people imagine when they read your stamp, then you are lucky to get ANY hits! :)
taking that into advice maybe writing
bill currwency study on by hand would be a good idea making it look like a poorly funded study..
where real research is being done.. LOL
but then this day and age maybe a seal would be good(round stamp) cause it would look like it was done on the computer
Handstamps are alot easier and very versatile. I use Currency Study sometimes on my bills, and once had a customer that thought the Government was responsible for the study and needed to find some other way to waste their time!! I have a large 3-liner and a 1-liner with just the Url in caps. The first one says 'Follow the Adventures of this Banknote at… and the Url. While they are very simple and to the point, they don't instruct you to enter the bill and still they garner many hits. Being a 'Dual Citizen' my 3 line stamp(paper over the Url) has served me well at Where's George and here at Money Tracker. The last line can be handwritten in and still get the same effect. Occasionally I come across bills with just the Url h/w or a one liner on the front, so the partial stamping adds to the bill without double stamping it with 2 sites. This way the amount of bills I'm able to enter is considerably more than what I would have just handwritting or inkjetting.
"pooga, while i hope that you know that you have my utmost respect around here, "
he does?
;)
did but idjit had it first so idjit got the hit.
i hadn't even considered market-based research when i responded.
You know the real world view of surveys and opinion research?
"The finding depends on the funding."
Think about it!
