Ya, the users of that site are big into publicity. Initially I was jealous, but not anymore. Big hype and buzz and Hollywood-style publicity is very American, as opposed to the non-intrusive Canadian style. Plus, I suspect publicity such as that generates a lot of users who come and never return as opposed to this site… where we end up with a solid number of regular users here are some stats to back up what I mean:
Out of 631 registered users as of this message:
Maybe our sites are similar in terms of stats, who knows. But I like most because of our controlled growth; means that I am able to continue to add features to the site without the site dominating my time completely.

As of 9:00am Pacific Time(10:00MT), We had about 49%(Us-33,985. Them-69,293) of the evil sites bills and about 55%(Us-$545,802. Them-$994,200) of their total money. We should be passing them in a few months.
'We should be passing them in a few months.'
No problem…

Publicity, if it is educational in nature, could attract people who already have an interest in money. I think that these folks could make 'high quality' members. I agree with DR though, a lot of media hype could attract tire kickers and fools. The other problem with the media is that they can't resist commenting on something they don't know anything about, which often results in bad press and misinformation. After that happens, you end up spending lots of time and effort setting the story straight and putting out fires. Better to let the site grow naturally. If the media shows interest, there's not much you can do except be patient with them.
The News doesnt get them any more hits than usual. Thats why i like out way of avertising, thru the bills. By the way Dr, how many times have i logged in? That should be in our profile.
dr. I liked the demographics you provided; able to extrapolate the number of regular users by the % of users logging on. What is the breakdown of gender; and a mean of the ages entered. % of people who don't enter sex or age?Tx
dr, as you said, 60% of the users won't be coming back. What I think is that you should e-mail them and ask them if they can have their user deleted.
Maybe we should get rid of some of the really old messages on the message boards also.
