Who remembers the retired flag used by Canada prior to the mid 60's?

Out of the short list of flags ( To replace the Ensign ) I liked the three Maple Leaf version the most. Would be a nice flag for the three western Provinces to fly in solidarity.

I still see the Red Ensign around occasionally.

Union Jack is still flown in BC and at federal buildings for three holidays a year; Commonwealth Day, Statute of Westminster Day and Remembrance Day.

Your in BC and Navy still uses an Ensign. Probably available at the Flag Shops. The youth of today do not learn things like this anymore as the 2000's have many new issues of the times. When I was grounded and my privileges revoked for doing something wrong I only had the encyclopedias to read. My record player was removed from my room and tv privileges taken away and yes I knew what the strap was. I often wondered why some law firm never sued the school boards for issuing corporal punishment to the youth in the 1950's and 1960's. . The school boards use to issue leather straps to apply discipline if you upset your teacher. Those acts would never fly in todays world. Show of hands who received the strap in public school?

I am pretty young; born in the early 2000s. I can tell you in BC to graduate high school it is mandatory to learn about all of this, including the flag debate of the 1960s, the constitutional structure of our nation, Charter of Rights, etc. From what I understand the curriculum for Social Studies has not changed here for quite awhile, other than to add the history of Indigenous peoples into it.

I'm thankful for that to say the least.

I would love to see Saskatchewan to follow BC in flying the RED ENSIGN. I am very happy to hear these items still reach the students of today, we should always add to the History and never take it away as they are doing with some of our past leaders. Right or wrong what they did was acceptable in their era, yes the culture has changed over the years but the past is the past. ADD TO HISTOR0Y NEVER TRY TO ERASE HISTORY. They are /want changing the name of JOHN A MCDONALD ROAD because after 50 years his name should not be on a street, Sorry that is just BS name other streets being added in the city to go with the times but leave those that were named many years ago alone. Do I support Indigenous Rights and Customs yes but stop trying to erase history.

Note that those few flying the ensign are far and between, and none at government buildings. The government only flies the Maple Leaf Flag, the provincial flag, and on some days, the Union Jack.

I feel like some overstate the whole "erasing history" thing too. I hear a lot from older folks who misunderstand the new $10: they are moving Mr. McDonald to the $100 note, not getting rid of him.
