Was doing some research…. (ok, ok, just aimlessly surfing the web), when I came upon this tidbit:
In 1858, the Province of Canada wanted to move away from the Pound Sterling (and its odd coin system) in favour of a decimal system like the United States. Due to increased trade with the States, and anti-British sentiments there, a new name for the currency was needed. Ultimately, 'dollar' was chosen to appeal to North Americans in general.
The runner up for the name of the currency?
"Royal"
Wouldn't it be interesting to have a 5 Royal note? Would it have been R5 or 5R, or would a different symbol have been used? Like this or like this or even this?
Kinda like the second one myself.
And if the notes were royal, what would the coins be. Do'nt even want to go there…
Another tidbit…
In 2012, Iceland was considering moving to the Canadian dollar. And not without precedent either. Ecuador uses the US dollar as it's main currency. But just bills. They mint their own coins.
Iceland eventually decided against, but it would have been interesting.
The site could use some work if your just wondering around the net.
Surfing and coding are just a little bit different.
How do we find out when they will change the 20 dollar picture ?
Or will the Queen be left on it forever, after all everyone else on our other denominations are dead?
The King could be on all our coins, and maybe the ten dollar bill.
Another point to ponder on all bills except the 20 the name of the
person is printed at the base of the picture. Why is her picture not identified?
To help with your question do not expect to see King Charles 111 notes before 2023. Change does not happen in the year of passing.

There may come a time, in the not-too-distant future, when you no longer see the face of Queen Elizabeth II when you open your wallet, if you still use cash, and will instead be greeted by her son and successor, King Charles III.
When that may happen is yet to be determined. The late monarch will maintain her place on the $20 bill and on Canadian coins for now.

The organizations responsible for the production of our money, the Bank of Canada and the Royal Canadian Mint, are staying mum on the future of Canadian currency as people mourn the death of our head of state. So, too, is the Department of Finance, which makes the final decision on any design updates.
