Today, in honour of Queen Elizabeth II, The Royal Canadian Mint released a new comparative $2 coin (twonie) into general circulation.
The outer ring of the coin is black (to represent a black armband) in honouring her death. It IS/and WILL BE) Legal tender.
Today (and tomorrow) in Winnipeg, the Mint is doing a 1-for-1 exchange for the new coin. FRESHLY MINTED!!
As stated earlier, they will be released for general circulation so keep your eyes open.
Lucky to live in the same city as the Mint!
Although they were made available in Ottawa at the same time.
The Mint will release the 2nd edition (with 4 portraits of the Queen on the reverse) in February, as I was told today while at the mint.
While they were doing a 1-for1 exchange, it was a limit of 2 per person. The lineup was out the door.
While I did get my 2 coins, you can expect to see amongst your general circulation coins in the near future. So, keep an eye out!
What a rip off make a special trip to the mint ,line up for two coins.🥵
It's not like they were giving them away for free.
