For the first time ever I ahve a mouse in my house.. ERRR.. What the duece do I do to get it away? I have some traps, using Peanut Butter as bait, but just want some other tips if you have them..

Thanks

smack him with your stamp..lol…got one of your bills tonight and was so happy since it was the first of yours. HINT: after smacking the mouse with your stamp don't try to spend him in Moose Jaw. :-)

The peanut butter should work, if not get some of the sticky traps they work well….. we have mice where I work and about 12 traps. Or Get a cat who is a good mouser.

sorry to hear that, mmmbeer. but i hope you realize that it is more likely that you don't have A mouse, but rather "mice"…

your memo reminded me of an email i got from a friend this week that some of you might find amusing… and may be helpful to your battle as well. here goes….

——copied from elsewhere—–

i think i may also be ready to declare victory over my mouse invader. a few weeks ago (when it started to get a bit cool at night… odd…) we discovered a mouse had moved under the sink somewhere and was dining on rice and oatmeal, etc. i got me a couple of fancy traps (waaaay nicer than those old wooden ones, but that's just an excuse for wal-mart to charge more - - they're all the same darn thing. invent a better mousetrap my ass…) and that night caught me a nice juicy deer mouse. (don't mind my coughing of late - - must be a cold. ) ANYWAY, there was no evidence of any more mice. for weeks, even. until i took off the front cover of the diswasher and had a look (hey. just something a guy does) . more mouse turds. so out came the traps again. THIS time, i quickly realized i was up against a much superior mouse brain than that possessed by the previous mouse.. next morning i found my trap tripped, the bait eaten, AND a couple of turds left disdainfully on top it. the sight actually made me laugh out loud. i'd say this lad paid attention to what happened to his pal.

so i went around the house sealing up anything that looked like a potential entry point (never mind… there were a few. stupid old houses anyway) with that expanding foam stuff. and then i put out some yummy "super mouse treat" which is poisoned canary seed. and every morning i'd see how it was disturbed. traps always ignored, but he liked the food. then on sunday i was in the basement reading and heard this strange gnawing-through-2x6 sound. clear as day. i pound on the wall, all falls silent. wait a few minutes, up it starts again. anyway. every nght i'd straighten up the poisoned seeds into a nice neat pile, and every morning they'd be disturbed. until this morning. nobody dropped by for breakfast. so i'm a-hoping that thin-blood syndrome caught up to my pal. i just hope the little bastard realized he was getting colder and colder…. now i can look forwrd to the always popular and pungent eau-de-putrefication coming from the walls.

Only saw one so far.. It has been in the basement for a week, now, last-night, it decides to take an adventure upstairs. My brother saw him in his room, than chased him out. He ran to another room, straight up the curtains, and stayed in them for a while. We went to get something to trap it ourselves, than when we got back, it had gone.
I think those sticky traps would work well. Searching the net on how to get rid of the mouse, most people have luck with those.

BTW: you found goooodbeer's bill, not mine.

Keep the mouse as a pet if you find it.. bring it to school and torment the teacher.

Can't hurt you, unless, like the cartoons, its as big as a Kangaroo. lol

they carry diseases such as Hanta virus and others. not to mention chewing through electrical cords and yes even your computer is not sacred. an electrical fire could be caused etc etc.
i just feed them. i live in the country more or less and we get them in here all the time. half the basements dirt and the other half stone and concrete. i just make sure poison is out all the time so that as soon as they are moved in, they can have a good meal. yes the smell is awful but it goes away.
i have probably killed 100 but have never found one to throw away. except in the traps. i have a couple set all the time with peanut butter.
in the garage in the warmer weather i have a barrel with a board going up to it and peanut butter on the underside. they try to get it and fall in and drown.

Hey, everyone knows that the best mousetrap ever devised is a beer bottle on it's side with a little beer left in it!

They get in, but can't get a grip to get out. (The old compact bottles worked the best)

Lord_Comedy

I had a mouse problem..
i got lucky when i seen them.. 2..
little brats
i luckily (for me) had a can i could throw at them..
Splat..
neither time did i really aim.. just lucky…
seems when i aim for something i miss.
i have 2 traps .. 1 with cheese (dried out) and 1 with PB
my landlord put some poison which i think is undisturbed.

I also had a mouse problem. I saw one swimming in my dog's water dish one night (yeah I know, gross huh). Peanut butter works, but in this case I scooped it up and threw it into the snow. It froze almost immediately, so at least it didn't suffer.

MmmBeer, being more of an animal lover, I shy away from poison (and don't like the idea of a rotting mouse behind a wall), and one can never be sure what else gets poisoned. What happens if somebody's cat is out hunting and eats the mouse for lunch?

We had our one mouse for about a week before we could finally outsmart him. Tried all kinds of baits, all kinds of traps, but he'd always leave the traps empty and untripped. The humane trap he didn't even go into.

It wasn't until we went to the Victor website (makers of mousetraps) for some tips. We used their suggestion to tie a short piece of dental floss onto the trigger of the trap.

Sure enough, Mr. Mouse tried to pull the floss off to take back to his nest, not 10 minutes after we set the trap.

And well… he didn't make it. sniff

Mouse trap companies must hire people to research the best ways to catch mice. Can you imagine that job?

Lord_Comedy

the dental floss sounds like an easy idea.. they build a nest just like many other small animals.. and they need to be able to drag the object..
that job sounds like
it is thinking around corners.. cause how do you think like a mouse..

K, I have a sticky pad trap in my room.. The mouse has come into my room twice in the last 2 days. Once each day at about 4 AM.. Each time he has hit the sticky trap, and got off somehow, I hear him hit it, struggle, and he is gone very fast.. making me mad.. Ill goto the Victor site and see the tips. Thanks

Lord_Comedy

If you hear him struggling why don't you hit him with something??
I killed one i trapped in my bathroom.. as that was how they got in, but i filled their hole with sand.. then put a board over it..
I grabbed a shoe b4 i went in there.. sure he ran behind the toilet and whatnot.. but i just shooo ed him out..
then shoed him LOL
