What saddens me is seeing the dozens of people that used to be on the site, versus the maybe 5-10 people that log onto this site on a daily basis.
The usage of cash has also declined greatly among Canadians, especially among the younger generations. As I'm in my 20s and quite young, none of my friends use cash on a regular basis either, let alone once a month.
As I'm reaching 20,000 bills entered, I'm unsure what got me back into this site. I started entering bills again in November 2023, and it doesn't seem like anyone has started to enter bills on a regular basis since then. Our userbase is slowly declining and it's really sad to see. I don't mean to be pretentious, but I hope my presence has brought a bit of life back onto the site :)
It seems like most people here get a hit or two a week at max. I've been going crazy with this hobby by developing more and more sophisticated ways to maximize the amount of bills I spread around. At times I spend hours doing this only to get a few hits out of it, which is enough fun for me.
Anyhow I'm not sure what my entire point is here, but does anyone want to explain why they're still on here after 10-20 years of tracking? What keeps you all entering bills here?
For me it's about seeing where money I have had travels and what the person that enters it has to say…. I wish there was a way for those outside of Canada and the USA to enter notes, but they can't unless they know a postal code or a zip code. My goal is to enter $1,000,000…25,000 and change to go…
My goals are similar to BDKINGSTON's and I do check in weekly just to read the forums and enter the few bills I do get, it is what keeps me coming back.
During the first 10 years after we first joined the site there was more personal interaction between our members both locally and Provincially in Saskatchewan (coffee and supper get-togethers, BBQs and Bocce tournaments) that we could interact and in some cases make lifelong friends!
(BD I hit the million mark just before Christmas)
Congratulations on reaching one million.. I miss the get togethers we use to have.
I have many reasons:
1) I consider it my hobby
2) I also love seeing how the notes circulate
3) I also love reading the comments that SOME note finders leave
4) I love the camaraderie thatwe have and considerate as a family
I also have to agree that it is sad that the entries have fallen, some old timers are no longer participating (but still holding positions).
I try my darndest to make my daily entries, but health issues has slowed me down on some days.
My hope is that therll be a boom on the website and it will become popular as it was.
Yes, with more people not using cash as much as they were in the past, it does slow things down.
I have no plans to slow down or to quit as long as the site continues to operate to its full potential. We have Pooga to thank for that! The dedicated time it takes!!
So, fingures crossed 🤞, lets all oull up our socks and enter, enter, enter.
During my time in Australia, I did notice something interesting when it came to paying for goods and services.
When paying by credit card, most businesses added a 2 to 3% service charge to the total.
When paying by debit card or EFT, there was a 1 to 2% service charge.
But when paying by cash, the total did not change. And there was a lot of cash being used!
Would love to see that here!
Welcome back Pooga!
Hope you enjoyed your time in Australia. Interesting observation, great to have you back!
