I hear that there was a huge fire in downtown Moose Jaw last night!

How did our Moose Jawians do? Injuries or property damage? How did it start? etc. etc….

The fire actually started around 11:00 A.M. It was contained at three buidings, no loss of life, but it took out seven business'. The big loss is in the heritage buildings, the Joyners clothing store (with a cable cash system, the only one left in North America) and the original Land Titles building (the first in the North West Territories, built in the 1880's) The property will be developed again but those buildings are only memories now!

yes it was a horrible loss to the city of Moose Jaw since some of the buildings were heritage. There was no loss of life and the firefighters fought through the night to contain the situation. I had my scanner on and had a birds eye view of the entire fire as I live on a hill top over looking the downtown area. On 2 different occasions the firemen had indicated that they had the fire under control and then another buliding would explode and the fight was on again. i watched for 8 hours from my porch. How sad I felt. I guess all I can say at this time is that there was no loss of life and the fire although had taken 4 or 5 bulidings..it was stopped. This will be a day for us to remember in a sad way..Jan 1st 2004.

Sorry! That should have been 'Largest operating' one in North America.

And I was misinformed the Dominion Land Titles Building was 2 buildings South of the fire, but there is danger of roof collapse because of the ice build up on the roof.
