I have an uncut sheet of 1973 $1 bills that measure 4 bills wide by 10 high (40 bills). Lately, I've noticed on e-bay a few sheets that measure 5 wide by 8 high? Why the difference?? Does this add value to mine (or not)? I thought my dimensions were the only way? Can somebody shed some light on this??
yours was made by the Canadian Bank Note Company (CBN) while the 5x8 were made by the British American Bank Note Company (BABN). BABN made 88,009 of the sheets and the usual price for those is $275. yours is rarer(CBN made only 26,507) and therefore fetches $300 ($450 if it has the ECW prefix… WAY more if its the EAX). i hope this helps!
While I wasn't fortunate or knowledgeable at the time to get the 4x10 sheet in the ones, I chose later to purchase the $2s in that format. I have since had them framed professionally(without backs showing) and wondered what I would get for them, or if there was any demand for ready framed sheets.
Based on the value of the sheets(no rare #s or prefixes) and framing cost, would I be too far off on asking $800+ for the set? Most think because they're hanging on the wall that they're fake! LOL
Thanks rudyk & Bill…I knew someone here would have an answer. Darn, my prefix is ECP…oh well. Sorry Bill, thanks for the offer, but I'm keeping mine (they are framed as well…with UV protective museum quality glass no less). I'm actually researching value on behalf of a friend who wants to sell his sheet (still rolled up in original packing tube). Now I have some info for him (sorry…don't know anything more specific about his sheet yet). Thanks again guys.
well, bill collector, as they say, you can always ASK $800+ … :)
the 4x10 sheet of CBN $2, unless they are replacement S/N, go for $175. it is interesting that the guide says the number of sheets produced is unknown. the $2 didn't go out of circulation that long ago, so i'm sure that that is reflected in the price. i dunno if the framing would really add THAT much more to the value (is the wood really rare? :) )!
Thanks Rudyk and Kilrcat. I still have the receipts for the framing which cost somewhere around $350 for the pair. The frames are black metal with matting to match the colour of the bills and acid free backings/paper.
I may someday purchase the $5 sheet and do the same thing, but the outlandish premium compared to what the first notes sold for has discouraged me from buying them. I was fortunate to obtain them for a slight premium $15-20 over face value, when they first were being sold! It's been 2 years now since the new $5s came out and the price has remained the same, so the time might be right to splurge!
The $2 sheet has done very well considering the shorter time
it's been out of circulation, but the newest guides should have something in them regarding #s. I personally wait 2-3 years before purchasing anonther and I am currently using the 2002 guide, which is just that, a 'GUIDE'. We all know just how HOT the Paper market has been lately and that $$ Values quoted often do not reflect current trends.
I read somewhere that these formats are no longer used, that there are now 45 bills per page.
Anyone know when this started and why? My guess is the sheets would then be 9x5 regardless of which printing company is being used.
